# Hand

## Visual Elements

Red hand print

## Cultural Context

A red handprint on the face carries meaning across multiple cultural contexts. In Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW) advocacy, a red handprint over the mouth symbolizes silenced voices and stolen lives. In broader visual culture, face handprints appear in war paint traditions, horror imagery, and protest art. The mark's ambiguity -- violence, solidarity, or defiance -- makes it one of the most potent face accessories in the collection.

## Justification

A red handprint on the face is impossible to ignore and impossible to assign a single meaning -- it could be protest, war paint, or evidence. That ambiguity is what makes it powerful in the Milady archetype.
