# Hindu Swastika

## Visual Elements

Hindu Swastika in red; a symmetrical shape with four identical arms bent at right angles, extending clockwise in a pinwheel-like pattern, with dots at the arm intersections.

## Cultural Context

The Hindu swastika is a 5,000-year-old symbol from the Indus Valley Civilization, means "well-being" in Sanskrit and represents prosperity and the cycle of life, linked to Ganesha. Used in Hindu, Jain, and Buddhist rituals. Its positive meaning was tainted by the Nazis' reversed version, but it remains sacred in these cultures.

<!-- justification
## Justification

Including the Hindu swastika is a deliberate act of cultural reclamation -- restoring a 5,000-year-old symbol of prosperity to its original meaning rather than ceding it to its 20th-century misappropriation. Mibera does not look away from symbols that require context.
