# Oil

## Visual Elements

Black smudges, 1 bigger in size and 2 small ones.

## Cultural Context

Oil smudges on the face are a hallmark of the free party and sound system scene, where participants physically build and maintain the rigs, generators, and vehicles that make events possible. The aesthetic of grease-stained faces became an identity marker within the tekno traveller and DIY sound system communities, distinguishing those who do the manual labor of counterculture from those who merely attend.

<!-- justification
## Justification

Oil on the face means you were under the hood of the generator or wiring the rig -- it is the Freetekno archetype's version of a merit badge, earned through labor, not purchased.
