# Motor Detroit

## Visual Elements

Black t-shirt with a graphic and text that says “MOTOR Detroit” in the middle.

## Cultural Context

Motor City is Detroit's most famous nickname, earned from the city's dominance of the American automobile industry throughout the 20th century. The same post-industrial infrastructure -- abandoned factories, cheap warehouse space, working-class resilience -- that defined the auto industry's decline also created the conditions for Detroit techno to emerge.

<!-- justification
## Justification

You cannot talk about Detroit techno without talking about the auto industry that gave the city its identity and then left it behind. Motor Detroit connects the music to the industrial landscape that produced it.
