# Bearyphus

## Visual Elements

Light grey bear wearing a plain brown bodysuit and darker brown robe tied around their waist and a bong attached to it. On their hand is a white rollie / joint. A plushie based on [this Bong Bear](https://opensea.io/item/ethereum/0x495f947276749ce646f68ac8c248420045cb7b5e/66075445032688988859229341194671037535804503065310441849644897973191057604609).

## Cultural Context

Bearyphus is a named character from the Bong Bears collection, a bear-pun take on Sisyphus, the figure from Greek mythology condemned by the gods to eternally roll a boulder uphill only to watch it roll back down. The absurdist philosopher Albert Camus famously reimagined Sisyphus as a symbol of human perseverance, concluding "one must imagine Sisyphus happy." Bong Bears is one of the foundational NFT collections in the Berachain ecosystem, and Bearyphus's robed, monk-like appearance with an attached bong leans into the philosophical absurdity of the reference.

## Justification

A bear dressed like a wandering monk, named after the most famously futile laborer in mythology, and carrying a bong -- Bearyphus is the collection's philosophical stoner distilled into plushie form.
