# ancestral trance vortex

## Visual Elements

a vortex / spiral of forces that seems to be sucking you in leading to a deep black hole, in blue and white.

## Cultural Context

Spiral and vortex imagery appears across cultures as a representation of altered states of consciousness, from Aboriginal dreamtime art to Haitian Vodou veves to Sufi whirling. The visual motif of being pulled into a central point recurs in descriptions of deep meditation, psychedelic experience, and shamanic trance across unrelated traditions.

<!-- justification
## Justification

The visual motif that ties the collection together: rave culture's altered states are just the latest iteration of something humans have been chasing since prehistory.
