# coca leaves

## Visual Elements

two leaves with a tiny red bud.

## Cultural Context

Coca leaves have been chewed by Andean peoples for thousands of years to combat altitude sickness and fatigue. Before being refined into cocaine, the plant was a sacred everyday staple, and its inclusion highlights the distance between traditional use and modern excess.

<!-- justification
## Justification

The collection traces substances from sacred origin to modern excess. Coca leaves are the starting point of that journey — millennia of Andean tradition before the nightclub bathroom.
