# drank lean purp sizzurp

## Visual Elements

a white large cup with purple drink spilling on one side and a few ice cubes in it.

## Cultural Context

Lean, also known as purple drank or sizzurp, is a mix of codeine cough syrup, soda, and candy popularized in Houston's hip-hop scene in the 1990s. It represents the intersection of drug culture and music that mirrors the rave scene's own relationship with substances.

<!-- justification
## Justification

Lean maps the same drug-music symbiosis the collection explores in electronic music, but through Houston rap. Different genre, identical pattern: a substance and a sound becoming inseparable.
