# drum

## Visual Elements

a hand-drum.

## Cultural Context

Drums are the oldest musical instrument tied to communal trance states, used in every culture from West African ceremony to Native American ritual. The beat that drives a rave connects to the same primal impulse that has moved human bodies for millennia.

<!-- justification
## Justification

The root instrument. Every four-on-the-floor kick drum in the collection's world descends from the hand drum's primal function: synchronizing human bodies into collective motion.
