# piper methysticum

## Visual Elements

a big piece of leaf.

Piper methysticum is the kava plant, used across the Pacific Islands for centuries in social and ceremonial drinking rituals. Its calming, euphoric effects make it a communal intoxicant built around shared stillness rather than the stimulant-driven movement of rave culture.

<!-- justification
## Justification

Kava represents a different model of communal intoxication: stillness instead of movement, calm instead of stimulation, offering a counterpoint to the rave's frenetic energy.
