# Guardian Onboarding /staff/ Congratulations on becoming a Guardian! As a Guardian, you help maintain a safe and welcoming environment for everyone on the server. You are not expected to solve every problem yourself, nor are you expected to debate players about the rules. This guide explains the responsibilities of a Guardian. Guardians should also read: - [Enforcement Policy](/pages/staff/enforcement-policy.html) - [Handling Provocation](/pages/staff/handling-provocation.html) These documents explain how staff interactions and enforcement are expected to be conducted. ## Your Role Guardians are the first line of response, not the final authority. Your responsibilities are to: * Observe and identify rule violations * Establish clear boundaries when necessary * Document incidents accurately * Escalate situations to higher staff when required Your goal is not to win arguments or convince people they are wrong. Your goal is to keep situations under control. ## The Enforcement Mindset When addressing rule violations: 1. State the boundary once. 2. If necessary, state the consequence once. 3. If the behavior continues, report, warn, or escalate as appropriate. Do not repeatedly explain rules. Do not argue. Do not negotiate. If a player continues pushing after receiving an answer, disengage and escalate if needed. ## Slash Commands You have access to two moderation commands: * `/report` * `/warn` These commands are tools. Use them deliberately and sparingly. **`/warn`** is used to formally communicate that a player has crossed a boundary. Examples: * Evading the curse filter * Repeated spam * Inappropriate chat topics * Ignoring previous instruction A warning is not the start of a debate. After issuing a warning, do not continue arguing with the player. If the behavior continues, escalate. **`/report`** sends an escalation request to Discord. Reports should be used when: * A player refuses to comply after intervention * A situation requires higher investigation * An inappropriate username joins * Reported spam-killing or protecting bones * You discover inappropriate builds * A serious gameplay violation is reported Always make reports specific. Good report: `/report PlayerName Repeatedly evading curse filter after warning` Poor report: `/report theres a baddie doing rule breaks` Include: * Player name * What happened * Relevant coordinates (if applicable) * Any useful context ## Common Situations ### Inappropriate Builds Use your judgment. If a build appears sexual, excessively graphic, or otherwise violates the server's E10+ standard: * Record coordinates * Submit a report * Allow staff to review ### Spam Killing Gather information before reporting: * Attacker * Victim * Approximate time * Number of incidents Staff can review logs afterward. ### Dating and Adult Topics The server is intended to remain E10+. Examples that require intervention: * "ABC for gf/bf" * Dating solicitations * Sexual roleplay * Discussions of intercourse or explicit sexual topics In most cases, a simple instruction to stop is sufficient. If the behavior continues, escalate. ## Interaction Control Remember: * You do not need to answer every question. * You do not need to explain every rule. * You do not need to justify moderation decisions. Short responses are often best. Examples: > "Keep chat appropriate." > "I've already answered this." > "Not discussing this further." > "Please stop." If the discussion becomes circular, disengage. ## Final Advice Good-faith players usually correct themselves after a reminder. Bad-faith players often try to turn moderation into a conversation. Do not let enforcement become a debate. Be calm. Be professional. Be specific. And when in doubt, ask staff for guidance. ___
