# Weathernews — Printing Press CLI

## Prerequisites: Install the CLI

This skill drives the `weathernews-pp-cli` binary. **You must verify the CLI is installed before invoking any command from this skill.** If it is missing, install it first:

1. Install via the Printing Press installer. It defaults binaries to `$HOME/.local/bin` on macOS/Linux and `%LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\PrintingPress\bin` on Windows:
   ```bash
   npx -y @mvanhorn/printing-press-library install weathernews --cli-only
   ```
2. Verify: `weathernews-pp-cli --version`
3. Ensure the reported install directory is on `$PATH` for the agent/runtime that will invoke this skill.

If the `npx` install fails (no Node, offline, etc.), fall back to a direct Go install (requires Go 1.26.6 or newer). This installs into `$GOPATH/bin` (default `$HOME/go/bin`), so add that directory to `$PATH` instead:

If `--version` reports "command not found" after install, the runtime cannot see the binary directory on `$PATH`. Do not proceed with skill commands until verification succeeds.

## Auth Setup

Selected public products need no credentials. Member-only products and commercial WxTech are outside scope.

Run `weathernews-pp-cli doctor` to verify setup.

## Agent Mode

Focused commands emit compact JSON. `--agent` adds meta/results; `--select` projects dotted paths through arrays. Retain season/source/horizon when answering freshness questions. Metrics/errors are stderr. Keep issue time null when missing; never substitute fetch time or first valid time. Separate observation, forecast and historical norm; infer date year only from the source season title. Elevation stays null if absent.

## Paths and state

Use `--home /absolute/path` for isolated config/state/cache, and `--no-learn` for deterministic read-only tasks. Focused caches have bounded TTL and no stale fallback. `--refresh` explicitly refreshes inventory; `--data-source local` serves only fresh cached source snapshots. Paginate with `next_offset` before refreshing; spot details are lazy.

## Health Check

Run `weathernews-pp-cli doctor --dry-run` locally; `places resolve --query 京都 --metrics` checks live public access.

## Troubleshooting

Check stderr and exit code: 2 usage/projection, 3 not-found/cache miss, 4 access restriction, 5 upstream/schema/partial comparison, 7 rate limit, 10 local path/config. An empty search is valid.
