NPOI is an open-source .NET library for reading and writing Microsoft Office
formats without requiring Microsoft Office, COM, or interop.

Maintaining a widely used Office-file library requires ongoing work on bug
fixes, compatibility, security updates, NuGet releases, CI infrastructure, and
community support. We are grateful to the organizations and individuals who
help make this work sustainable.

## Important Note on Licensing and Maintenance

NPOI is developed and distributed as an open-source project, but the project
also applies an Open Source Maintenance Fee (OSMF) policy for qualifying
organizations and users of binary distributions. This is part of the project's
sustainability model and is separate from GitHub sponsorship.

In other words:

- GitHub Sponsors and corporate support help fund ongoing maintenance and
  community work.
- The OSMF / maintenance fee policy is a separate licensing/compliance
  requirement for certain organizations and commercial users of the binary
  packages.
- Sponsorship does not replace or waive any applicable OSMF obligations.
