            "text": "When there are no restrictions on contributions and expenditure during electoral campaigns, candidates can receive unlimited and unrestricted donations. This may have the effect, that economically powerful individuals donate large sums of money, hoping to to secure advantages once the candidate has been selected, thereby undermining the democratic process. This indicator is one of five categories in the Money, Politics and Transparency Index and focusses on the legal situation. This yields the limitation that it does not convey any information on the enforcement of restrictions or the real situation in a country. Nevertheless, data is more likely to be reliable, as good data on campaign financing may be difficult to obtain. The indicator consists of 12 sub-indicators, such as whether laws exist to limit contributions from individuals and corporations to a maximum amount, to ban cash contributions, and to ban anonymous contributions."
