# Mega Man 8 Recomp **Status: Complete / Playable** This project is a recompilation of **Mega Man 8**, the classic PlayStation game developed and published by Capcom. The game has been successfully recompiled into a native application and is **complete and playable**. ## About This project uses **mstan's PSXRecomp tool** to recompile the original PlayStation game into native source code that can be built and run as a standalone application. The underlying recompilation technology and much of the difficult work involved in making this possible are thanks to **mstan's PSXRecomp project**. This repository is intended to preserve and share the **recompiled source code and project files**, allowing others to study, build, modify, and contribute to the project. ## Features * Complete and playable game * Native recompilation * PlayStation version of Mega Man 8 * Recompiled using PSXRecomp * Graphics working correctly * Frame rate working correctly during gameplay * Gameplay working correctly * Controls working correctly * Full game is playable * Source code available for building and development * No original game disc image included ## Current Status **Complete / Playable** The recompilation is fully playable, with the main game functioning correctly. ### Working * **Graphics:** Working correctly * **Frame rate:** Working correctly during gameplay * **Gameplay:** Working correctly * **Controls:** Working correctly * **Audio:** Working, with some sound crackling remaining ### Known Issues There are currently two known issues: **Audio Crackling** Some sound effects and audio may occasionally experience crackling or minor audio distortion. **FMV Playback** The game's full-motion video (FMV) sequences are currently **cropped** compared to the original presentation. Some FMV sequences may also experience **dropped frames** during playback. These issues do not prevent the game from being completed and do not significantly affect the core gameplay experience. Future development may focus on improving audio playback and correcting FMV scaling and frame-rate behavior. ## Credits * **mstan** — PSXRecomp tool and recompilation technology * **Capcom** — Original developer and publisher * **Mega Man** — Original intellectual property and characters * **Omega Katana** — Recompilation project and source-code release ## Requirements To build or run the recompilation, you may need the original game data depending on how the project is configured. You are responsible for obtaining any required original game files legally. ## Important Notice This repository **does not distribute the original Mega Man 8 game files**. The following are **not included**: * Original ROM files * `.BIN` files * `.CUE` files * PlayStation disc images * Original copyrighted game assets * Original game data intended for distribution Any required original game data must be obtained separately from a legally owned copy of the game. ## Building From Source Clone the repository and follow the build instructions provided by the project. The exact build process may depend on the platform and development environment being used. The purpose of this repository is to provide the **recompiled source code and project files**, rather than redistribute the original game. ## Project Goals The primary goals of this project are: * Preserve the game through recompilation * Provide accessible recompiled source code * Allow others to build the project themselves * Enable research and experimentation * Maintain the original gameplay experience * Improve compatibility and performance * Fix remaining audio issues * Improve FMV scaling and playback * Encourage community contributions ## Legal / Copyright **Mega Man 8**, Mega Man, characters, artwork, music, sound effects, FMV footage, trademarks, and other original game content remain the property of their respective copyright holders.
