Paper Plane is an alternative Telegram client. It uses libadwaita for its user interface and strives to meet the design principles of the GNOME desktop.

Paper Plane is still under development and not yet feature-complete. However, the following things are already working:

This is the fifth beta release of Paper Plane 0.1.0 with new features and bug fixes:

  • Archived chats can now be displayed. (#598, #607, #613)
  • Chats can now be archived and de-archived. (#601)
  • Chat folders can now be displayed, selected and deleted. (#603, #608, #609, #614)
  • A regression that prevented images from being sent has been fixed. (#586)
  • The indicator for venue messages now has the correct opacity. (#588)
  • You can now reply to messages with pictures. (#589)
  • A loading indicator is now displayed when a document is downloaded, in coorporation with @yuraiz. (#590)
  • Many improvements to venue and location messages have landed, such as opening the map in the modal and displaying the location on the OSM website. (#596)
  • The loading of messages has been improved so that there are now always enough messages loaded to allow scrolling. (#600)
  • Fixed a crash that occurred sporadically when starting the application. (#602)
  • Release descriptions have been marked as untranslatable, thanks to @sabriunal. (#594)
  • Dependencies have been updated. (#615)

This is the fourth beta release of Paper Plane 0.1.0 with new features and bug fixes:

  • Paper Plane now uses some new shiny widgets from libadwaita 1.4, thanks to @melix99. (#518)
  • The tdlib telegram client library has been updated to 1.8.19, thanks to @alissonlauffer. (#577)
  • The login flow has been completely redesigned and now looks more modern. (#510)
  • We have redesigned the session switcher. It has been moved to the sidebar and shows a confirmation dialog when logging out. (#510)
  • The message entry can now be clicked without effecting the state of the application window. (#510)
  • Displaying location and venue messages is now implemented. (#548, #582)
  • Fixed an application crash when trying to log in. (#559)
  • A mask is now used for the document message status indicator, thanks to @yuraiz. (#555)
  • The dialog for sending media files has been improved in function and appearance, thanks to @melix99. (#540)

The third beta release of Paper Plane 0.1.0 should in the first place fix a build error on Flathub:

  • Added registered categories to the desktop file to fix a build error on Flathub.
  • Dependencies have been updated.
  • Turkish translations have been updated, thanks to @sabriunal.

The second beta release of Paper Plane 0.1.0 contains the following features, fixes and chores:

  • Blueprint compiler has been updated to version 0.8.1, thanks to @alissonlauffer.
  • The chat history now has a background image, which is animated when new messages arrive, thanks to @yuraiz.
  • A bug was fixed that lead to an application crash if selecting non-existing chats from the contacts window, thank to @alissonlauffer.
  • Avatars of deleted accounts now have a ghost icon set, thanks to @karl0d.
  • The application will now be built with more aggressive compiler options, which should result in a smaller and maybe faster binary.
  • Dependencies have been updated.
  • Portuguese and Polish translation have been updated, thanks to @jvlianodorneles and @karl0d.

Paper Plane 0.1.0-beta.1 is the first release for enthusiasts to try out and play around with.
