**20-20-20 Rule: Eye Strain Relief** is a vision ergonomics and wellness Chrome Extension designed to help users mitigate digital eye strain, prevent dry eyes, and relax eye muscles during prolonged computer use by reminding them to take a 20-second break every 20 minutes to look at an object 20 feet away.

We are deeply committed to user privacy. This extension operates **100% locally and offline**. We do not collect, store, transmit, monetize, sell, or share any personal information, browsing history, or user data.

- **No Personally Identifiable Information (PII):** We do not collect names, email addresses, phone numbers, ages, or physical addresses.
- **No Browsing History or Web Activity:** We do not track, log, or store URLs you visit, search queries, page contents, keystrokes, clicks, or mouse positions.
- **No Health or Medical Data:** We do not collect medical history, biometric data, or sensitive personal health information.

All preferences and statistics generated by the extension are stored **strictly on your local device** using Chrome's native `chrome.storage.local` API and never leave your machine:

   - Timer intervals (work interval minutes, break duration seconds, snooze duration).
   - Audio settings (sound volume and mute toggle).
   - Pause/resume state.
   - Excluded websites list (user-defined domains where the break overlay is disabled).
   - Workstation ergonomics self-audit checklist state.

2. **Local Health Statistics:**
   - Number of breaks completed today.
   - Total seconds of eye rest recorded today.
   - Daily streak counter.

You can clear or reset this local data at any time by uninstalling the extension or clearing extension data in your browser settings.

## 4. Permissions Used & Justifications

Every permission requested by the extension is strictly necessary to perform its core single purpose:

| **`tabs`** | Used to synchronize the fullscreen relaxation overlay across open tabs and identify the active domain only to check against your local excluded domains list. |
| **`activeTab`** | Used to display the audio chime exclusively on the focused active tab, preventing loud audio echoes across multiple background tabs. |
| **`scripting`** | Used to inject the isolated Shadow DOM fullscreen break overlay into open tabs when a 20-minute rest break arrives. |
| **Host Permissions (`<all_urls>`)** | Required to display the relaxation break overlay across browser tabs regardless of the webpage currently open, while respecting your site exclusion list. |

## 5. Remote Code Policy

**No Remote Code:** This extension does not download, execute, or evaluate any remote scripts, external WebAssembly, or third-party hosted JavaScript. All code, audio synthesis algorithms (Web Audio API), and styling are bundled locally within the extension package.
