# 01 — Install and say your first words **Platform:** Windows x64 **Needs hardware:** no **Time:** about 3 minutes on a typical connection Your first win should not depend on tuning a model or buying anything. Install Handy Tool, download a small local model, and put one spoken sentence into Notepad. ## Install 1. Open the [Handy Tool releases page](https://github.com/patrick-1984/handy-tool/releases) and download the Windows x64 installer for version 1.0.0. 2. Run the installer, and read [The installer tells you what's missing, and the build runs on your CPU](../features.md#the-installer-tells-you-whats-missing) before you decide how to answer the warning Windows shows. 3. Launch Handy Tool and grant microphone access when Windows asks. The first launch guides the rest: [Not a black box on first launch](../features.md#not-a-black-box-on-first-launch). 4. In the setup guide, pick your languages, then open **See all models** and choose **Moonshine V2 Tiny** for this exercise. Its 31 MB download keeps the first run short; it is English-only. If you need another language, pick the fastest of the three models suggested for it and allow more time. 5. Wait until the model finishes downloading and is selected. Before continuing, read [The app makes no calls you didn't ask for](../features.md#the-app-makes-no-calls-you-didnt-ask-for). ## Put a sentence into Notepad 1. Open Notepad and click in the empty document. 2. Press `ctrl+space`, say “This is my first Handy transcription,” and press `ctrl+space` again. 3. Wait for the sentence to appear in Notepad. That is the complete first loop: [Press one key, speak, and the text appears where you were typing](../features.md#press-one-key-and-speak). Path: [Handy Tool documentation](../README.md) · Next: [02 — Trust the safety net](02-first-words.md) **You can stop here.** You have installed Handy Tool, downloaded a local model, and transcribed your first sentence.
