Octant — Privacy Policy Last updated: August 18, 2026 The short version: Octant does not collect, transmit, or sell any of your data. Your position is read by the app, shown to you, and stays on your device. DEVELOPER Octant is developed by Dzianis Milasheuski, an individual developer based in Lithuania. Questions about this policy: info@porconova.com WHAT WE COLLECT Nothing. Octant has no analytics, no ads, no accounts, and no servers that receive your data. There is no sign-up and no login. The app makes no network requests of its own: the only network activity is Apple's own In-App Purchase system when you buy or restore Pro. We do not know who you are, where you are, or which points you have saved. HOW THE APP WORKS - Your position, accuracy, altitude, speed and course come from the device's own GNSS receiver through Apple's Core Location framework. They are displayed and held in memory while the app runs. Nothing is uploaded. - Compass heading, the level, air pressure and barometric altitude come from the device's magnetometer, motion sensors and barometer through Apple's Core Motion framework. Same rule: shown, not sent. - Saved points are written to a file inside the app's own container on your device, as ordinary JSON. They are not synced to iCloud and not copied anywhere else. - The sky chart is computed, not fetched. Satellite positions are calculated on the device from published orbital parameters that ship inside the app, using your coordinate and the current time. No almanac is downloaded and no request is made to obtain it. - The AR sky view shows a live camera preview with the computed satellite positions drawn over it. The image is displayed on screen only: no frame is recorded, saved, analysed, or transmitted, and the app has no photo library access at all. - Settings — units, coordinate format, averaging preferences — are stored in the app's own preferences on the device. - If you add a Lock Screen or Home Screen widget, the app writes your latest fix (coordinate, accuracy, altitude, timestamp) into a shared container that only Octant and its own widget can read (App Group group.com.pn.gps). It stays on the device, is overwritten roughly twice a minute while the app is open, and is removed with the app. WHAT LEAVES YOUR DEVICE Only what you export yourself, and only where you send it. Coordinates copied to the clipboard, a coordinate shared through the share sheet, and GPX or CSV files exported from your saved points go exactly where you choose to put them — a message, a mail, another app, a file. Nothing is sent automatically, and nothing is sent to us. PERMISSIONS - Location (While Using the App). Required: without it the app has no position, no accuracy figure, no altitude, and nothing to return to. Octant never requests Always or background location, and does not track you when it is not open. The app shows its own explanation screen before the system prompt. Revoke it any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services. - Motion & Fitness. Optional. It drives the compass, the level and the barometric altitude. Everything else works without it; the app says so in place rather than blocking you. - Camera. Optional, and asked for only when you open the AR sky view. Used for the live preview behind the satellite overlay and for nothing else. PURCHASES Octant Pro is sold through Apple's In-App Purchase, as a subscription (monthly or yearly) or a one-time Lifetime purchase. Apple, not the developer, processes payment. We receive no personal or payment information — only whether this device holds a valid entitlement. You can manage or cancel a subscription in Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions on your device. YOUR RIGHTS Because the app collects no personal information on the developer's side, there is no developer-held data for you to access, correct, export, or delete. - Data stored on your device can be removed by deleting the app, or item by item inside it: saved points can be deleted individually or all at once. - Your own saved points can be exported at any time as GPX or CSV, which is a complete, portable copy of everything the app holds about your locations. - An active subscription can be cancelled in your Apple Account subscriptions. CHILDREN Octant is a navigation and measurement instrument. It is not directed at children under the age of 13 and does not knowingly collect any data from children. ACCURACY AND SAFETY Octant reports what the device's receiver reports, including its own margin of error, and computes satellite geometry from public orbital data. It is an instrument, not a safety-of-life system: do not rely on it as your only means of navigation where a wrong position could cause harm. The app draws no signal bars, because iOS exposes no per-satellite measurements to any app; anything that claims otherwise is estimating. REGULATORY NOTES The app is designed so that no directly identifying personal information (name, email, IP address, advertising identifier, account ID) is collected by the developer or by any third party the developer uses. Location data is personal data, and it is processed entirely on your device, under your control, and is never transmitted to the developer. Where Apple acts as a processor for purchases, those activities are governed by Apple's own privacy policy. If you use the app in a professional or organisational context, you may be the controller of the location data you record with it under applicable law.
