# Trademarks

cronstable™, the cronstable name, and the cronstable logo (the wordmark whose
"l" is a self-balancing double pendulum) are trademarks of Parker Loflin (the
"cronstable authors"). All rights in these marks are reserved.

These are currently **unregistered** marks, asserted through use in commerce and
denoted with the ™ symbol. (If a registration later issues, for example with the
USPTO, the ® symbol replaces ™ for the registered mark and this notice is
updated.)

## The code license is not a trademark license

cronstable's source code is released under the MIT License (see
[LICENSE](LICENSE) and [LICENSING.md](LICENSING.md)). The MIT License grants
broad rights over the *code*: use, modification, and redistribution. It does
**not** grant any right to use the cronstable name or logo as a trademark.
Copyright and trademark are separate bodies of law: you keep every freedom the
MIT License gives you over the source while the name and logo stay protected.

## What you may do without asking

- Refer to the project by name, truthfully (nominative fair use), e.g. "a plugin
  for cronstable" or "monitoring built on cronstable".
- State that your product works with, integrates with, or is compatible with
  cronstable, as long as you do not imply that the cronstable authors endorse,
  sponsor, or produce it.
- Redistribute unmodified cronstable under its MIT License, keeping the marks as
  they are.

## What needs permission

- Using "cronstable", or a confusingly similar name, for a different or modified
  product, a fork you distribute, a company, a domain, or an app-store listing.
- Using the cronstable logo as the logo or icon for your own product or service.
- Any use that suggests affiliation with, or endorsement by, the cronstable
  authors where there is none.

If you distribute a modified version, please give it a distinct name and logo
and make clear it is a derivative that the cronstable authors do not endorse.
This mirrors how cronstable itself is a renamed derivative of
[yacron](https://github.com/gjcarneiro/yacron): a distinct name, its own
branding, and an upfront disclosure of the lineage.
