## Version Guidelines

### Version Numbering
We follow [Semantic Versioning](https://semver.org/):
- **Major version** (X.0.0): Incompatible API changes, major rewrites
- **Minor version** (0.X.0): New functionality, backwards compatible
- **Patch version** (0.0.X): Bug fixes, backwards compatible

### Release Schedule
- **Major releases**: Annually or when significant technology changes occur
- **Minor releases**: Quarterly with new features
- **Patch releases**: As needed for bug fixes and security updates

### Deprecation Policy
- Features marked for deprecation will be announced in minor releases
- Deprecated features will be removed in the next major release
- Migration guides will be provided for all breaking changes

## Upgrading

### From 2.x to 3.0.0

This is a major release with breaking changes. To upgrade:

1. **Backup your project** before upgrading
2. **Update package.json** dependencies
3. **Remove jQuery code**:
   - Replace jQuery selectors with `document.querySelector()`
   - Update event handlers to use `addEventListener()`
   - Convert jQuery AJAX to `fetch()` API
4. **Update Bootstrap classes**:
   - Change `ml-*` to `ms-*`
   - Change `mr-*` to `me-*`
   - Change `pl-*` to `ps-*`
   - Change `pr-*` to `pe-*`
5. **Update data attributes**:
   - Change `data-toggle` to `data-bs-toggle`
   - Change `data-target` to `data-bs-target`
6. **Update Font Awesome icons**:
   - Change `fa fa-*` to appropriate `fas`, `fab`, or `far` classes
7. **Test thoroughly** in development before deploying

### From 1.x to 3.0.0

We recommend creating a fresh installation of version 3.0.0 and migrating your custom code, as the changes are too extensive for a direct upgrade.
