# Privacy Policy for Better Infocuria

Better Infocuria is a browser extension that improves the reading,
citation, and downloading of judgments from [Infocuria](https://infocuria.curia.europa.eu/tabs/tout).

## Data accessed and used

To provide its features, Better Infocuria locally accesses the content
and metadata of Infocuria judgment pages, including text selected by
the user. This information is used solely to generate citations,
tables of contents, highlighting, and appropriately named PDF
downloads.

The extension may also temporarily inspect download information for
user-initiated Eur-Lex PDF downloads in order to assign a readable
filename.

## Local storage

The extension stores only limited operational information in Chrome's
local extension storage, such as the installed extension version and
whether an update notification has been displayed.

## Data collection and transmission

Better Infocuria does NOT:

- collect personally identifiable information;
- transmit webpage content, selected text, or browsing history to the
  developer;
- use analytics or tracking services;
- sell or share user data;
- use data for advertising or profiling.

Processing of judgment content and selected text takes place locally
in the user's browser.

When the user requests a PDF download, the extension connects directly
to Eur-Lex over HTTPS to verify and download the requested public
document. No information is sent to a server operated by the developer.

## Data retention

Page content and selected text are processed temporarily and are not
persistently stored by the extension. Locally stored operational
settings remain until they are cleared by the browser or the extension
is uninstalled.

## Permissions

- `downloads`: used to download PDFs with readable filenames.
- `clipboardWrite`: used to copy citations selected by the user.
- `storage`: used for extension-version and update-notification state.
- Access to Infocuria and Eur-Lex: used only for the extension's
  disclosed reading, citation, and PDF-download features.

## Limited Use

Better Infocuria's use of information obtained through Chrome APIs
complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its
Limited Use requirements.

## Changes

Any material change to this privacy policy or the extension's data
practices will be disclosed before the changed practices take effect.
