# tab: time tracking for freelancers, from your AI assistant

[tab](https://tabwork.app) is a free time tracker and invoicing app for freelancers who bill by the hour.
This is its remote [MCP](https://modelcontextprotocol.io) server: connect it to Claude, ChatGPT or any
MCP client and say “start my timer for Northwind” or “log 2 hours to Loop Studio yesterday”.

## Tools

| tool | what it does |
|---|---|
| `get_status` | what the timer is doing now, and today’s time per client |
| `list_clients` | active clients, their hourly rates and projects |
| `start_timer` | start the timer for a client (and project); anything running stops at the same instant |
| `stop_timer` | stop it; returns minutes and what it earned |
| `log_time` | add time that wasn’t tracked (≤ 24 h, not in the future) |
| `get_tabs` | each client’s unbilled hours and what they come to |
| `list_invoices` | sent invoices with what’s still owed and what’s overdue |

It can’t send invoices, email clients, move money or delete anything: those stay in the app.
Every call runs as the signed-in freelancer, inside their own account only.

## Connect

- **Claude:** Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector → paste `https://app.tabwork.app/mcp` → Connect → approve on tab’s page.
- **ChatGPT:** developer mode for connectors → create a connector with that URL and OAuth.
- **Any MCP client with OAuth:**

Disconnect any assistant in tab under **Settings → AI assistants**.
