# Trademark Policy

This policy explains how the Ghost Arcade names, logos, and official project
identity may be used. It is not a change to the software license. The source
code remains licensed under the AGPL-3.0-or-later license in `LICENSE`.

Risk Capital Media LLC owns and controls the official Ghost Arcade brand
identity, including:

- `Ghost Arcade`
- `Ghost Arcade Community`
- `Ghost Arcade Pro`
- the Ghost Arcade logo, app icon, product artwork, screenshots, and release
  artwork
- `ghostarcade.live`
- official release names, package names, and update channels that identify a
  build as coming from Risk Capital Media LLC

The AGPL gives you copyright permissions for the code. It does not grant
permission to use Risk Capital Media LLC's trademarks or branding in a way
that suggests your build, service, or business is official, endorsed, or
maintained by Risk Capital Media LLC.

## Allowed uses

You may use the Ghost Arcade marks without asking permission when the use is
truthful, limited, and not confusing. Examples:

- saying that your fork is "based on Ghost Arcade Community"
- linking to the official project repository or `https://ghostarcade.live`
- discussing, reviewing, teaching, or making tutorials about Ghost Arcade
  Community
- showing screenshots of the unmodified official app in articles, videos, or
  documentation
- using the unmodified official app name when you are helping users install or
  run the official release

## Forks and modified builds

If you distribute a modified build, fork, installer, app store listing,
package, hosted service, or commercial bundle, you must make it clear that it
is not an official Risk Capital Media LLC release.

For modified or unofficial builds:

- use a different product name
- use a different app icon and logo
- do not use official release artwork as your primary branding
- do not name your project, package, domain, or app listing in a way that is
  confusingly similar to `Ghost Arcade`, `Ghost Arcade Community`, or
  `Ghost Arcade Pro`
- keep copyright and license notices required by the AGPL
- state clearly that your work is based on Ghost Arcade Community and is not
  affiliated with or endorsed by Risk Capital Media LLC

Suggested wording:

> This project is based on Ghost Arcade Community, an AGPL-licensed project by
> Risk Capital Media LLC. This fork is independent and is not affiliated with
> or endorsed by Risk Capital Media LLC.

## Commercial listings and resale

You do not have permission to sell, list, advertise, or distribute a build
under the official Ghost Arcade branding unless it is an official release from
Risk Capital Media LLC or you have written permission.

You may charge for services around your own fork, such as installation,
support, training, customization, consulting, or hosted operation, as long as
you follow the AGPL and this trademark policy. Your branding must make clear
that customers are buying from you, not from Risk Capital Media LLC.

## Domains, social accounts, and app stores

Do not register domains, social handles, package names, app store listings, or
advertising accounts that imply official control of the Ghost Arcade brand.

Examples that require written permission:

- `ghostarcade.app`
- `ghostarcadepro.example`
- `official-ghost-arcade.example`
- app store listings named `Ghost Arcade`, `Ghost Arcade Community`, or
  `Ghost Arcade Pro`

For trademark permission, commercial licensing, Pro licensing, or brand
partnerships, contact Risk Capital Media LLC through `https://ghostarcade.live`.

Risk Capital Media LLC may update this policy as the project grows. Existing
uses that were allowed under an earlier version will be handled reasonably,
but confusing or misleading uses may still need to be changed.
