# hermes-gate

> Bounded, receipt-bound completion rail for coding agents. Runs a repository's own checks (fast, review, full), records exactly which content and tool versions were checked, and reuses a PASS only while those bytes still match. No daemon, no runtime dependencies beyond Python 3.11+ and Git. Part of the Hermes Labs reliability stack.

hermes-gate turns "run the checks again" into a bounded completion ceremony instead of an unverifiable claim. `hermes-gate init` detects a repository's native Python or JavaScript commands and writes a reviewable `.hermes/gate.toml`, a checksum-bound stdlib runner, and a CI workflow. Each of `fast`, `review`, and `full` returns one terminal JSON state (`PASS`, `FAIL`, `NOT_APPLICABLE`, `NOT_CONFIGURED`, `REVIEW_UNAVAILABLE`, `PARKED`, or `ERROR`) bound to an exact content digest and command/tool versions. Lifecycle hooks inspect receipts; they do not repair code, invoke a model, or authorize a push, pull request, or release — `hermes-gate boundary` only verifies configured receipts, it never performs the Git operation itself.

Install: `pip install hermes-gate`. Python 3.11+. Apache-2.0 licensed.
