🇮🇳 Hinglish Translator — Privacy Policy

Overview

Hinglish Translator is a browser extension that converts visible English text on a webpage into Hinglish (a natural blend of Hindi and English in Roman script). This policy explains exactly what data is used, how, and what is never collected.

Data We Use

When you click "Translate This Page," the extension reads the visible plain text of the current webpage and sends it to the Groq API for translation. We specifically do not collect:

• Personal information (names, email addresses, phone numbers, etc.)
• Browsing history or visited URLs
• Form data, passwords, or any input field contents
• Images, media, or binary content
• Data from pages you do not explicitly choose to translate
• Any data beyond the visible text required solely for translation

API Key Storage

Your Groq API key is stored locally on your device only using Chrome's built-in chrome.storage.local API. It is transmitted exclusively to https://api.groq.com for the sole purpose of authenticating translation requests. The key is never sent to any other server, never logged, and never shared with any third party.

Third-Party Services

Translated text is processed by Groq, Inc. via their public API (api.groq.com). The text you send for translation is subject to Groq's Privacy Policy. We do not share your data with any other third party.

No Tracking or Analytics

This extension contains no tracking pixels, analytics SDKs, telemetry, or crash-reporting libraries. Your usage is entirely private. We do not know when or how often you use the extension.

Data Retention

This extension retains no data on any server. Text sent to the Groq API for translation is processed in-flight and is not stored by this extension. Refer to Groq's policy for their own data retention practices.

Permissions Justification

• activeTab — required to read the URL of the current tab to prevent injection into restricted pages.
• scripting — required to inject the translation content script into the active webpage.
• storage — required to store your Groq API key locally on your device.
• host_permissions: api.groq.com — required to make authenticated requests to the Groq API from the service worker.

Your Rights

You can delete your locally-stored API key at any time from within the extension popup by clicking the Delete button. Uninstalling the extension removes all locally stored data immediately.

Children's Privacy

This extension is not directed at children under the age of 13 and does not knowingly collect any information from children.

Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes materially, we will update the date above and publish a new version through the Chrome Web Store listing.
