This license applies to the source code, test code, examples, benchmark code, documentation, schemas, vectors, and other copyrightable material distributed in this repository (collectively, the "Software"), unless a particular file expressly states otherwise. This is a **source-available evaluation license**. It is not an OSI-approved open-source license. ## 1. Purpose The Software is published to permit independent technical inspection, reproducibility, research, security analysis, interoperability testing, standards discussion, academic evaluation, and comparison of execution-finality techniques for agentic tool-call systems. Publication is not intended to grant unrestricted production, commercial, patent-implementation, or sublicensing rights. ## 2. Definitions **"Licensor"** means Sangam Das, to the extent he owns or controls the applicable copyright or other rights in the Software. **"You"** means the individual or legal entity exercising rights under this license. **"Evaluation Environment"** means a non-production environment used primarily for research, testing, review, demonstration, benchmarking, security analysis, interoperability analysis, standards discussion, education, or internal technical evaluation. **"Production Use"** means use of the Software, or a derivative or reimplementation substantially based on it, to provide an operational service, control a live system, process real production workloads, create real-world consequential effects, or form part of a product or service offered to users. **"Commercial Use"** means use primarily intended to generate revenue, provide paid services, support a revenue-generating product, obtain commercial deployment advantage, or incorporate the Software into a product or service offered for consideration. Internal evaluation by a commercial organization is not, by itself, Commercial Use if confined to an Evaluation Environment. ## 3. Limited copyright license for evaluation Subject to compliance with this license, Licensor grants You a limited, worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable copyright license to: 1. view and inspect the Software; 2. download, clone, and make reasonable copies of the Software; 3. execute the Software in an Evaluation Environment; 4. run the supplied tests, demonstrations, benchmarks, and test vectors; 5. modify a local copy solely for research, testing, security analysis, interoperability analysis, standards review, or evaluation; 6. use automated tools, including static analyzers, fuzzers, linters, vulnerability scanners, indexing systems, and AI-assisted analysis tools, to analyze the Software; 7. quote or reproduce reasonable portions of the Software or documentation for criticism, commentary, academic work, interoperability discussion, standards discussion, or technical reporting, with attribution; and 8. publish independently obtained evaluation or benchmark results, provided You accurately describe the relevant environment, methodology, and material modifications. This license does not require Licensor to provide support, updates, maintenance, hosted infrastructure, private documentation, keys, credentials, production data, or access to unpublished materials. ## 4. Conditions The permissions in Section 3 apply only if You: 1. retain all copyright, attribution, license, patent, and disclaimer notices; 2. do not misrepresent modified Software as an unmodified release from Licensor; 3. identify material modifications when publishing results derived from a modified version; 4. do not imply endorsement, certification, standards adoption, regulatory approval, partnership, or affiliation; 5. do not use confidential or unlawfully obtained third-party data with the Software; 6. do not use the Software to interfere with, damage, attack, or obtain unauthorized access to systems, networks, data, or services; and 7. comply with applicable law. ## 5. No production or commercial license Except under a separate written agreement with the applicable rights holder, this license does not authorize You to: 1. deploy the Software in production; 2. incorporate the Software into a commercial product, paid service, managed service, hosted service, or revenue-generating platform; 3. use the Software as an operational control for real payments, communications, infrastructure, industrial systems, customer data, production AI agents, or other real-world consequential actions; 4. sell, rent, lease, sublicense, relicense, or commercially distribute the Software; 5. distribute a modified version as a competing implementation or product; 6. remove or obscure copyright, license, attribution, or patent notices; 7. use the Software or its documentation to imply that Licensor has granted a standards-essential patent license, FRAND commitment, royalty-free commitment, covenant not to sue, or other patent commitment; 8. use the Licensor's name, marks, publication titles, project names, or identity to advertise or endorse a product or service without permission; or 9. rely on this license as permission for a production or commercial reimplementation merely because the reimplementation is written in a different programming language, uses different cryptography, or changes software structure. ## 6. Redistribution You may provide an unmodified copy of the Software to another person solely for the evaluation purposes permitted by this license if: 1. the complete license accompanies the copy; 2. all notices are retained; 3. no fee is charged other than reasonable media or transmission cost; and 4. You do not represent that the recipient receives any broader rights than this license grants. Distribution of modified versions requires separate written permission, except that short code excerpts and patches may be shared for technical discussion, issue reporting, or proposed contribution to this repository. ## 7. Patent reservation Copyright rights and patent rights are distinct. Except for the narrow evaluation permission in Section 8, **no license or other right under any patent or patent application is granted expressly, by implication, estoppel, exhaustion, publication, contribution, standards participation, public disclosure, GitHub availability, or otherwise.** Without limiting the foregoing, patent rights associated with the DAS Protocols family and related execution-finality subject matter are reserved, including, where legally applicable: - PCT/IB2026/055615; - WO 2026/150382; and - other applicable published or pending applications, national-phase applications, continuations, divisionals, patents, or claims now or later owned or controlled by Licensor. References to patent applications are provided for transparency only. Nothing in this license represents that any referenced application has been granted, that any claim is valid or enforceable, that any claim is essential to a standard, or that use of the Software necessarily infringes or practices any particular claim. ## 8. Narrow patent permission for evaluation To the extent that merely executing the Software in an Evaluation Environment for a purpose expressly permitted by Section 3 would otherwise require permission under a patent owned or controlled by Licensor, Licensor grants You a limited, worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable patent license solely for that permitted evaluation activity. This narrow patent permission does **not** extend to: - Production Use; - Commercial Use; - manufacture or sale of products; - offering services to third parties; - deployment into live operational environments; - distribution of a commercial implementation; - implementation of a standard in a commercial product; - sublicensing; - importation or sale of products; or - use outside the scope of Section 3. No broader patent license, covenant, exhaustion, FRAND commitment, royalty-free standards commitment, or standards-essential patent commitment should be inferred. ## 9. Standards and IETF activities The Software may be inspected and discussed in connection with IETF or other standards work under the evaluation permissions above. This license does not replace or modify any disclosure obligation that may apply under the rules of a standards-development organization. Publication of this Software, participation in standards discussions, submission of an Internet-Draft, or reference to this repository does not itself create: - an IETF endorsement; - adoption of the associated proposal; - a royalty-free patent license; - a FRAND commitment; - a standards-essentiality determination; or - permission to implement patented subject matter in commercial products. Any separate IPR disclosure, licensing declaration, or standards-related commitment must be interpreted according to its own terms. ## 10. Contributions and feedback You may submit issues, comments, bug reports, benchmark results, interoperability observations, or pull requests. Unless separately agreed in writing: 1. You retain ownership of copyright in Your original contribution; 2. You grant Licensor a worldwide, perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free, non-exclusive right to use, reproduce, modify, distribute, and incorporate that contribution into the repository and related technical documentation; 3. You represent that You have the right to provide the contribution; 4. You must not submit confidential information, trade secrets, or third-party material that You are not authorized to provide; and 5. no contribution grants You ownership, inventorship, patent rights, partnership rights, or other rights in Licensor's pre-existing technology. Technical feedback, suggestions, issue reports, and interoperability observations may be used by Licensor without restriction or obligation, provided this clause does not transfer ownership of independently owned patents or copyrighted works merely because they were referenced in discussion. ## 11. No compliance, security, or legal determination The Software is a technical reference implementation and does not determine or certify: - GDPR compliance; - EU AI Act compliance; - compliance with another law or regulation; - conformity with an IETF standard; - security certification; - production readiness; - patent validity; - patent infringement; - freedom to operate; - standards essentiality; or - regulatory approval. Legal, security, compliance, and deployment decisions require independent assessment. ## 12. No endorsement Names of companies, protocols, standards, products, laws, regulators, or institutions may be used descriptively for interoperability or technical explanation. Such references do not imply affiliation, endorsement, sponsorship, approval, certification, adoption, or partnership. ## 13. Warranty disclaimer THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED **"AS IS"** AND **"AS AVAILABLE"**, WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, ACCURACY, SECURITY, RELIABILITY, AVAILABILITY, OR REGULATORY COMPLIANCE. LICENSOR DOES NOT WARRANT THAT THE SOFTWARE IS ERROR-FREE, SECURE, COMPLETE, SUITABLE FOR PRODUCTION, OR FREE FROM VULNERABILITIES. ## 14. Limitation of liability TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, LICENSOR SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, EXEMPLARY, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA, GOODWILL, BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY, OR SERVICE AVAILABILITY, ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THE SOFTWARE OR THIS LICENSE, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, LICENSOR'S AGGREGATE LIABILITY ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THE SOFTWARE SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT, IF ANY, PAID BY YOU TO LICENSOR SPECIFICALLY FOR THE SOFTWARE UNDER THIS LICENSE. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions or limitations; in those jurisdictions the limitations apply only to the extent permitted by law. ## 15. Termination The rights granted under this license terminate automatically if You materially breach its conditions. Upon termination, You must cease exercising rights granted by this license and stop using modified or copied versions of the Software except to the extent retention is required by law or ordinary backup processes. Termination does not expand or waive any patent, copyright, trademark, confidentiality, or other rights. ## 16. Separate commercial or implementation licensing Production, commercial, standards-implementation, OEM, SaaS, platform, hardware, telecommunications, financial-services, cloud, device, AI-agent, or other implementation rights may be made available only under a separate written agreement. Nothing in this license obligates Licensor to offer such a license or to offer any particular pricing, field of use, territory, exclusivity, FRAND term, royalty structure, or other commercial term. ## 17. Entire permission for this repository This license states the permissions granted by Licensor for the Software distributed under it. No broader license should be inferred from public availability, GitHub functionality, publication of documentation, release archives, test vectors, benchmark data, standards discussion, or technical correspondence. For permissions beyond this license, obtain separate written authorization from the applicable rights holder.
