# Privacy Policy — Semitone

**Semitone collects no data.** Nothing is transmitted anywhere, and there is no account,
no server, and no analytics.

## What Semitone stores

Settings are saved on your own computer using Chrome's local extension storage
(`chrome.storage.local`), and never leave it:

- Your display preferences — where the on-screen readout appears, and whether it is shown
- Whether "Remember keys per video" is switched on, and any keys it has kept
- Keys sent by a companion app running on your own machine

Uninstalling Semitone deletes all of it.

## What Semitone does not do

- It does not collect personally identifiable information, health, financial,
  authentication, location, or web-history data
- It does not record what you watch or listen to
- It does not read or transmit page content
- It does not access your microphone
- It contains no analytics, tracking, or advertising
- It makes no network requests of any kind

## Audio

Audio is processed entirely inside your browser tab, using WebAssembly bundled in the
extension. No audio is uploaded, recorded, or sent anywhere.

## Permissions

Semitone requests access to youtube.com, youtu.be, smule.com and localhost so it can attach
to the audio player on those pages and change its key before playback begins. On any other
site it stays inactive until you click its toolbar icon.

This access is used solely to find the audio or video element on the page and route its
sound through a pitch shifter.

## Third-party code

Pitch shifting uses [Signalsmith Stretch](https://signalsmith-audio.co.uk/code/stretch/)
(MIT licence), bundled inside the extension. It makes no network requests either.
