# Importing a Variety Quote Collection The Variety Importer is an explicitly invoked migration tool. It is not loaded or run by the OmaQuote service, and Python is not an OmaQuote runtime dependency. Run it from the plugin checkout: ```sh ./tools/import-variety.py [SOURCE] [DESTINATION] [--force] ``` With no paths, `SOURCE` is `~/.config/variety/pluginconfig/quotes/quotes.txt` and `DESTINATION` is `~/.config/omarchy/omaquote/quotes.json`. The destination directory is created when needed. An existing User Collection is left untouched unless `--force` is supplied; successful writes replace the destination atomically. Variety records are separated by a line containing `.` or `%`. The final `-- ` marker in a record separates Quote text from its optional Attribution. Line endings and outer whitespace are normalized while internal Unicode text, whitespace, and line breaks are preserved. The importer applies the version-1 Collection Document limits before writing: - at most 5,000 Quotes and 1 MiB of UTF-8 JSON; - at most 2,000 Unicode characters and 32 line breaks per Quote text; - at most 300 Unicode characters per Attribution; - no empty fields or duplicate Quote Identities. Malformed, over-limit, and duplicate records are skipped with a diagnostic. The command reports imported and skipped counts. The source must be a regular file no larger than 8 MiB. Unreadable, oversized, special-file, or non-UTF-8 input, a source with no usable Quotes, or a Collection Document over 1 MiB fails without changing the destination. The maintainer's personal Variety collection remains local. It is not included in this repository, is not shipped with OmaQuote, and is not licensed under the plugin's MIT code license. Review the rights for any text before redistributing an imported User Collection.
