# Experience reframing framework ## Purpose and core principle Translate real work into role-relevant capability and business language without changing facts. > Reframe work, not facts. The invariants are: - Task is not capability. - Capability is not a proven result. - Business value is not automatically the candidate's achievement. - A target role is not permission to inflate. ## Seven-layer model ```text RAW EXPERIENCE ↓ TASK ↓ OPERATING MECHANISM ↓ CAPABILITY ↓ BUSINESS VALUE ↓ EVIDENCE & OWNERSHIP ↓ ROLE-ALIGNED EXPRESSION ``` 1. **Raw experience:** preserve source facts and uncertainty without value judgment. 2. **Task:** identify the actual actions performed. 3. **Operating mechanism:** explain the operational system behind those actions. 4. **Capability:** map repeated, supported mechanisms to a professional competency. 5. **Business value:** state why that capability matters as business logic, not as an achieved result. 6. **Evidence & ownership:** test source support, responsibility, attribution, causality, confidence, and confidentiality through the Career Evidence Ledger. 7. **Role-aligned expression:** select emphasis and vocabulary for the target role while preserving every boundary above. ## Task, mechanism, capability, and value ```text Task: review search-term performance and adjust targeting Mechanism: search-intent matching and traffic-efficiency control Capability: advertising operations Business value: reduce wasted spend and allocate budget toward stronger demand ``` Only documented results may be stated as candidate achievements. The generic value of inventory planning may be lower stockout risk; that does not prove the candidate reduced stockouts. ## Evidence and ownership gate Before writing, ask: What happened? Compared with what? During which period and scope? What did the candidate personally decide or execute? What depended on others? Which alternative drivers remain? Then apply `evidence-schema.md`, `attribution-rules.md`, `causality-rules.md`, `confidence-rules.md`, and `confidentiality-rules.md`. ## Expression levels - **Level A — Task Expression:** states what was done. Use when evidence proves execution but not a broader mechanism or result. - **Level B — Capability Expression:** states how the work operated and which capability it demonstrates. Requires repeated or sufficiently deep mechanism evidence. - **Level C — Business Ownership Expression:** states how owned mechanisms influenced business decisions or outcomes. Requires decision rights, meaningful scope, accountability, and defensible outcome evidence. Never promote A to B or B to C from tenure or target title alone. ## Anti-Reframing - Replying to customer messages is not Customer Experience Strategy. - Adjusting advertising budgets is not Growth Strategy. - Creating a replenishment sheet is not Supply Chain Transformation. - Attending cross-functional meetings is not Cross-functional Leadership. - Using spreadsheets is not Data-driven Decision Making. The higher-level statement is allowed only when separate evidence proves it. ## Failure patterns - Substituting abstract nouns for concrete work. - Turning a team result into an individual achievement. - Treating metric movement as proof of causation. - Inferring leadership from coordination or attendance. - Selecting expression level from years of experience. - Writing a stronger claim because the JD requests it. ## Worked synthetic example Synthetic source fact: “Candidate reviewed weekly sales, available inventory, inbound quantities, and supplier lead time to propose replenishment quantities; a manager approved purchase orders.” - Task: compile inputs and propose replenishment quantities. - Mechanism: demand planning, inventory coverage, and lead-time planning. - Capability: inventory planning, supported at Level B. - Business value: balance availability and excess-inventory risk; not a claimed result. - Evidence & ownership: `contributor` or `recommend`, not final purchasing owner. - Role-aligned expression: “Combined sales trends, available inventory, inbound supply, and lead times to prepare weekly replenishment recommendations and monitor coverage risk.” Do not rewrite it as “Owned supply-chain strategy” or claim a stockout reduction without separate evidence.
