LingoAI is a local-first developer tool. It has no backend server of its own. Your API keys and
reports stay on your device, and page content is sent only to the AI provider you configure.
What LingoAI accesses
Visible page text — when you click “Run audit” (or record a flow), the extension reads the visible text strings on the active tab so they can be analysed for localization issues.
Screenshots — if enabled, a screenshot of the visible tab is captured to give visual context to the report.
The active tab’s URL and title — to label reports and enforce your domain-scope settings.
LingoAI only acts on a page when you explicitly trigger an audit or recording. It does not run continuously in the background or track your browsing.
Where your data goes
To your chosen AI provider only — extracted text (and, for vision-capable models, the screenshot) is sent directly from your browser to the API of the provider you select (Anthropic, OpenAI, or Google), using your API key. Their use of that data is governed by their respective privacy policies.
Nowhere else — LingoAI sends no data to the developer or any third party. There are no analytics, trackers, or telemetry.
What is stored, and where
API keys — stored on your device in chrome.storage.local with light obfuscation. They never leave your device except in requests to the provider you chose.
Reports & screenshots — stored locally in your browser’s IndexedDB so you can review history. Nothing is uploaded.
Settings — stored locally in chrome.storage.local.
You can clear all stored reports any time from the History tab, and remove API keys from Settings.
Permissions we request
activeTab, scripting, tabs — read visible text and capture a screenshot of the page you audit.
storage — save your keys, settings, and reports locally.
sidePanel — show the LingoAI UI in the side panel.
<all_urls> — so you can audit any site you choose; you can restrict this with the domain-scope allowlist in Settings.
Children’s privacy
LingoAI is a professional developer tool and is not directed at children.
