**Immortal is an independent, community-built project. It is not affiliated with,
authorized by, endorsed by, or sponsored by Meta Platforms, Inc.**

"Meta", "Meta Portal", and "Portal" are trademarks of Meta Platforms, Inc. They
are used here only to identify the hardware this software is compatible with
(nominative use). Immortal is not a Meta product and ships no Meta code.

## Use at your own risk

Meta Portal devices are discontinued and receive no official support. Immortal
modifies device settings — it replaces the home screen and screensaver, enables
installing apps on the device, and can pause system updates. By using Immortal
and its provisioning kit you accept that:

- This may **void any remaining warranty** or violate the device's terms of use.
- Modifying a device always carries some risk, up to and including making it
  unusable ("bricking"). We are not aware of Immortal bricking any device, and
  every change the kit makes is designed to be reversible (`--restore` /
  `Restore-Portal`), but **no outcome is guaranteed**.
- Pausing system updates means the device will not receive future security
  patches while Immortal's setup is in place. This is optional and reversible.
- You are responsible for the apps you choose to install from third-party
  sources. Immortal does not vet third-party apps.

The software is provided "AS IS", without warranty of any kind, under the terms
of the [MIT License](LICENSE). To the maximum extent permitted by law, the
authors and contributors accept no liability for any damage, data loss, or other
harm arising from its use.

## Privacy

Immortal has no analytics and no accounts. It talks only to the services needed
to function: a hosted catalog/update manifest, F-Droid for app downloads, and
keyless weather/photo APIs for the screensaver. No personal data is collected by
the project.

If you believe any content here infringes your rights, or you represent Meta and
have concerns, please open an issue or contact the maintainers; we will respond
promptly.
