Ayrookuzhiel Storytelling Project** documents the planning, development and implementation of accessible storytelling resources based on the writings and ideas of [Rev. Dr. A. M. A. Ayrookuzhiel](/amaa/). The initiative forms one of the three principal objectives of the preparations for the [30th Death Anniversary Commemoration](/amaa/30/) on Sunday, 29 November 2026. The purpose of the initiative is to communicate A. M. A. Ayrookuzhiel's academic, literary and social thought through a variety of educational and visual formats without replacing the original works. Rather, the storytelling resources are intended to serve as an entry point, encouraging readers to explore the complete texts published on The Sunil Abraham Project. This page documents the vision, planning, editorial principles and production workflow of the initiative. It is intended as an evolving project document and will be updated as new ideas emerge, methodologies are refined and storytelling resources are produced. ## Contents 1. [Background](#background) 2. M. A. Ayrookuzhiel. Following discussions with family members, storytelling was identified as one of the three principal objectives of the commemoration. The project was first publicly announced in [Bulletin 1](/amaa/30-bulletins/#bulletin-1), published on Wednesday, 15 April 2026. The objective is to make A. M. A. Ayrookuzhiel's ideas more accessible to wider audiences, including readers unfamiliar with South Indian society, caste structures, Dalit movements and the historical context of his writings. The initiative complements the archival work already undertaken by The Sunil Abraham Project. While the original essays, books and papers remain the primary sources, storytelling resources provide additional pathways for understanding and engaging with those works. ## Objectives {#objectives} The storytelling project seeks to: - Improve accessibility to A. M. A. Ayrookuzhiel's writings. - Explain complex ideas through appropriate visual and educational formats. - Encourage readers to consult the original works published on The Sunil Abraham Project. - Support educational use by students, researchers and the general public. - Develop storytelling resources suitable for both digital and physical exhibitions. ## Editorial Principles {#editorial-principles} The storytelling project is guided by the following editorial principles: - Faithfulness to the original writings. - Historical and contextual accuracy. - Accessibility without oversimplification. - Editorial judgement before visual design. - Appropriate format chosen according to the subject. - Every storytelling resource should link back to the original source material whenever possible. ## Workflow {#workflow} The project follows an editorial workflow that may evolve as experience is gained and additional storytelling resources are produced. ```text Read the original work ↓ Editorial analysis ↓ Identify key ideas and storytelling opportunities ↓ Define the communication objective ↓ Select the storytelling format ↓ Select the visual style ↓ Research and fact-checking ↓ Produce the storytelling resource ↓ Editorial review ↓ Publication ↓ Revision and maintenance ``` ## Storytelling Formats {#formats} The format of each storytelling resource is determined by the communication objective rather than following a fixed template. ### Short-form storytelling {#short-story} Short-form resources communicate a single idea, concept, event or argument. Examples include: - Infographics - Concept diagrams - Timelines - Flowcharts - Relationship maps - Quote cards - Educational posters ### Long-form storytelling {#long-story} Long-form resources explore one or more works in greater depth. Examples include: - Slide presentations - Illustrated articles - Exhibition panels - Educational booklets - Videos A single work may generate multiple storytelling resources, while some works may not require any storytelling resources. Likewise, a single storytelling resource may draw upon several related works where this provides a clearer understanding of the subject. The storytelling unit is therefore the idea rather than the individual work, allowing each resource to be developed according to its educational objective rather than the structure of the original publication. ## Visual Styles {#styles} Visual style is considered separately from storytelling format. The chosen style should reinforce the educational objective and historical context of the material rather than serve as decoration. Possible styles under consideration include educational illustrations, museum exhibition panels, documentary graphics, editorial illustration, vintage educational textbook layouts, archival newspaper aesthetics and other styles appropriate to the subject matter. A documented style library will be developed as the project progresses. It will record recommended visual styles, their characteristics, suitable applications and representative examples, helping to maintain consistency while allowing different subjects to be communicated through the most appropriate visual language. ## Task List {#tasks} ### Phase 1: Editorial Planning - [x] Document the storytelling workflow. - [x] Document editorial principles. - [ ] Prepare a style library. ### Phase 2: Content Analysis - [ ] Analyse published works. - [ ] Identify key ideas. - [ ] Identify storytelling opportunities. - [ ] Prioritise topics. ### Phase 3: Production - [ ] Create storytelling resources. - [ ] Review editorial accuracy. - [ ] Publish completed resources. ### Phase 4: Review - [ ] Evaluate completed work. - [ ] Refine workflow and editorial guidelines. - [ ] Expand the initiative to additional works. ## Completed Storytelling Resources {#completed} This section will document completed storytelling resources as they are published. ## Future Development {#future-development} The storytelling project is expected to evolve throughout the preparations for the 30th death anniversary and beyond. M. A. Ayrookuzhiel's writings and ideas. As new works are documented and additional source material becomes available, this page will continue to record the project's development, editorial decisions and completed storytelling resources. {% include navbox-amaa.html %}
