What am I seeing?
You are watching an evolving ecosystem. The small moving triangles are autonomous organisms. They are not controlled by a script; they possess "DNA" that dictates their behavior. They must find food to survive and reproduce.
The Environment & Food:
Green dots are plants. They grow continuously, favoring the "fertile" center of the world.
Red dots are meat/carrion, dropped when an organism dies.
The edges of the screen are "harsh zones" where organisms burn energy faster.
Genetics & Trade-offs:
Organisms evolve traits, but every advantage has a cost:
Speed: Fast organisms catch food easily but starve quickly from high metabolism.
Size: Large organisms hold more energy and push others aside, but move sluggishly.
Diet: Organisms evolve to eat plants, meat, or both (omnivores). Omnivores are flexible but get less energy from each food type compared to specialists.
Sociability: Social organisms form swarms (safer, share info), but deplete local food instantly. Loners find untouched food but risk wandering into harsh zones.
How Evolution Works:
When an organism eats enough, it splits asexually, passing its DNA to its offspring with a slight mutation. Over time, organisms with traits suited to the current environment thrive, while others go extinct. You will often see boom-and-bust cycles, the emergence of scavenger species, and territorial shifts.
