gnu make and the EPICS Makefile system don't work well with paths containing blanks. The reason is that it doesn't seem possible to get around blanks being recognized as word separators by the string manipulating gmake functions a la $(addprefix) etc. I tried to work around this as much as possible and it seems that most things work if blanks are escaped with backslash-characters, e.g., MATLABDIR=C:\Program\ Files\MATLAB\2010a HOWEVER: the perl script that computes dependencies ('.d' files) definitely cannot deal with blanks and removes these escape characters. Hence, the .d files are unusable by 'make' and lead to errors. To work around this either - disable dependency tracking in EPICS base OR - always 'make clean' then 'make' T.S. 1/2012
