Toner cartridge is the essential part of the printer. Without the cartridge, you cannot print your document. Clean the cartridges regularly. Use the steps which are given below to install and maintain the HP Laserjet Pro M402n Ink Cartridges properly.
- Check whether that you use the suitable ink cartridge for your 123.hp.com/ljprom402n printer.
- Make certain that use an authenticated ink cartridge for printing.
- The printer might display an error message if the cartridges are not positioned properly.
- Verify if your printer is powered on. Unlock the cartridge door, press down the cartridge to release it.
- Remove the protective tape that might be on the HP Laserjet Pro M402n Ink Cartridges nozzle.
- Place the cartridges again by sliding it into the empty slot and then ensure that it fixes properly.
- Close the HP M402n ink cartridge access door. If the error still exists, go to the next step.
- Ensure that there is no debris on the electrical contacts of the cartridge and in the ink cartridge slots.
- If there is any dust or debris, the printer might not detect the cartridge for printing.
- Power up your HP Laserjet M402N printer. Unlock the cartridge access door.
- Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer. Disconnect the USB cable, if the printer is linked to the PC via a USB cable.
- Press on the ink cartridge to release it from its slot and then take off the cartridge from the slot.
- Check the ink cartridge contacts for ink and debris by holding the cartridge by its sides.
- Clean only the copper-colored contacts on the ink cartridge and then allow it to dry for at least 10 minutes.
- Use the cloth to clean the electrical contacts in the ink cartridge slots.
- Reinsert the cartridge, place the color cartridge into the left slot and place the black ink cartridge into the right slot.
- Close the cartridge access door. Re-plug the power cord to the posterior side of the printer.
- Reconnect the USB cable. Power up your printer, Try to print a document.
- If you still find an issue, move to the next to resolve it easily.
- Unlock the ink cartridge access door. Press the cartridge to remove it from the slot.
- Insert the new HP Laserjet Pro M402n Ink Cartridges into the slot. Insert the black ink cartridge into the right side of the slot.
- Place the color ink cartridge into the left side of the slot. Once you are done, lock the cartridge access door.
- Try to print a document. If the document prints successfully, you are done. You can stop troubleshooting.
- If the error still persists, move to the next step to resolve it,
- Restarting the printer might rectify an HP Laserjet Pro M402n Ink Cartridges issue.
- Turn on your printer. Wait until the HP Laserjet Pro M402N printer is idle before you begin.
- Disconnect the power cord from the posterior side of the printer and from the wall outlet.
- Halt for at least 60 seconds. Link the power cord back into the wall outlet and to the posterior side of the printer.
- Ensure that you estimate the cartridge regularly to check its ink level.
- If you find that the cartridge is low or empty, you need to replace it.
- To replace the existing cartridge with a new cartridge, use the steps which are mentioned above.

- Make sure that the cartridge you use is not low so that you can maintain the same quality throughout the document.
- Power on your 123.hp.com/ljprom402n printer. Attempt to print a sample document.
