# Shared taxonomy and Australian HASS coverage Reviewed 21 October 2026. The Australian HASS curriculum maps onto shared subjects; HASS is not a taxonomy subject. All 89 Foundation–Year 6 standards are Full in the [coverage report](acara-v9-hass-coverage.md), using 210 links across 124 topics: 70 existing topics and 54 additions. The [cross-country authoring policy](../README.md#adding-curricula) calls for shared subjects and domains, reuse or extension of matching topics, and individual teachable concepts or skills. Country-specific knowledge belongs in topics where it genuinely differs. ## Subject and domain placement | Subject | Domains used by this batch | |---|---| | History | Historical Thinking; Family & Community History; Modern History | | Geography | Places & Environments; Maps & Spatial Skills | | Personal & Social Development | Responsible Decision-Making; Empathy & Social Awareness | | Life Skills | Entrepreneurship | Geography is a reusable discipline. The new History domains support learning across countries; Australian colonial history, Federation and citizenship changes retain their specific factual content within Modern History. Cultural diversity uses the existing Personal & Social Development framework. ## Reuse and focused topics All 51 initial draft topics were compared with the existing graph using text similarity, keyword searches and content review. Two overlaps were consolidated into existing topics, keeping their published IDs: | Existing topic | ID | Extension | |---|---|---| | Evidence from the Past | `mt_9REmUc8r4D` | Interpret and compare old and modern objects using observable evidence. | | Different perspectives and accounts | `mt_2GDBmKCJxs` | Compare perspectives on objects, places and events. | Their research-citation evidence was replaced with observable learner tasks. Related but distinct learning stays separate, with prerequisite links where useful. Bundled requirements were split into focused topics: picture timelines and picture maps; Australian administrative divisions, First Nations Countries and locating neighbouring countries; national commemorations, symbols and religious or cultural festivals. Timelines use History/Historical Thinking; map skills use Geography/Maps & Spatial Skills. The resulting batch adds 54 topics. Three existing map topics move from Mathematics/Geometry to Geography/Maps & Spatial Skills, with all curriculum links retained: - Finding places on a plan (`mt_61Pa4Eksva`). - Reading and drawing maps (`mt_w4cUnN_SsQ`). - Grid references and directions (`mt_ejht12jhm2`). ## Verification and scope The authoring graph, persisted mirror, database and export agree. All existing topic IDs, curriculum links and prerequisite edges are preserved. The batch adds 131 prerequisite edges; it introduces no cycles, age-span warnings or new hard prerequisite age conflicts. Derived centrality is refreshed. Teaching-research records are unchanged; coverage identifies the topics without research. HASS completes this learning area in the current Australian Foundation–Year 6 scope. Health, Digital Technologies and Design and Technologies still have gaps. PE, Arts and Languages are excluded from the coverage goal.
