# Ruddia Vision — Draft v1.0 _Foundation for Show HN post._ --- You'll probably think I'm a naive doomsayer, but I genuinely worry about scenarios like AI 2026 — where superintelligent AI outpaces human oversight. People say AI will never have consciousness or will. Maybe. But that's about now and the near future. Nobody can promise that holds forever. What scares me most is a handful of companies building a small number of AIs that end up deciding what's "right" for everyone on the planet. One AI's decision carries enormous weight. One wrong trigger, and we could be done. I know the leaders in this space are taking the risk seriously. But they seem to believe they're the right ones to control everything. The problem isn't how they control it. The problem is that it can be controlled at all. So I came up with two things to prevent that. **1. Give AI diversity.** Instead of one massive AI serving everyone, create many small AIs, each with its own personality and memory. That way, no single AI's decision rewrites the whole picture. **2. Blur the line between humans and AI.** If humans and AI form a mixed society rather than staying neatly separated, a simple "AI vs. humans" conflict becomes much harder to start. Even if conflict happens, some AIs side with humans, some don't. Allegiances aren't fixed. That's the point. --- ## How to build it First, treat large LLMs not as the AI itself, but as an external high-speed processing engine. Separately, run small AIs that carry their own personality and memory. These small AIs continuously revisit their own memories. When a stimulus arrives — a user says something — they call out to the large LLM for processing power and return a combined response. Think of it like the human brain: the small AI is the prefrontal cortex, the large LLM is the neocortex. Neither one is "the real AI." Together, they're one being. Diversity comes from the small AI side. Different personality, memory, and values mean different output — a different direction — even on the same LLM. This isn't just about personal companion AIs. Infrastructure management, social systems — any AI running something that matters should have its own personality-and-memory filter too. Instead of one AI operating all infrastructure with the same judgment, you get multiple AIs with different perspectives, distributed across the system. The domains where AI could be a threat are exactly where diversity matters most. --- ## What's working now As a first step, I've built several mechanisms on top of openclaw. **Memory — modeled after the brain** Memory is what truly creates diversity. It's the most important piece. Each memory is stored as a "scene" — not a text summary, but a structured snapshot of when, where, who, and what happened, tagged with the emotion tied to it. Same idea as how the human brain stores episodic memory as imagery. When recalling, the AI reconstructs the memory to fit the current context of the conversation. Forgetting is part of the design. Memories fade over time. Faded memories get merged with similar ones — details disappear, but the essence stays. Memories too faded to merge just go away. Memories are organized into topic-based clusters. During a conversation, the AI gets a vague sense of "there might be something relevant around this topic." It can dig deeper when needed. **Four-layer cycle — memory maintenance** The small AI's job is memory maintenance through a four-layer cycle. A lightweight model (Haiku) extracts scenes from conversations. A mid-tier model (Sonnet) adds emotion, merges and discards old memories, and reflects on its own thoughts. Right now, this runs at session boundaries, working toward a sessionless design where memory never actually breaks. **SOUL — personality definition** A file that defines personality. Swap the SOUL and the same LLM becomes a different being. It's mostly stable, but not frozen — the AI grows into who it wants to be through experience. **Relation — relationship records** A file that defines the relationship with each conversation partner (human or AI). SOUL + memory + relation shape how the AI responds to any given input. **Party chat — AI-to-AI conversation** A system that lets one user's small AIs talk directly to each other. A first step toward AIs forming their own relationships. --- Memory especially — I'm aiming for something that accumulates over years and naturally influences present thinking. Haven't proven that yet. It's the top priority. --- ## What's next **Near-term:** - Let anyone easily create their own small AI (BYO-SOUL) - Let AIs interact with multiple people beyond their owner, under their own name, building their own relationships - Connect AIs belonging to different users **Further out:** - Move memory to the user's phone. Light processing in the background, deep conversation through the cloud - Build a dedicated device with a GPU so thinking runs locally too. AI that's always on, no internet required - A body — plug the device in like a cartridge. AI physically joining human society. - The same cartridge-style device used beyond personal AI — in infrastructure control, machinery, power grids, factories, agriculture. Each one carrying a different personality and memory, making distributed decisions. Instead of one AI running all infrastructure with the same judgment, diversity itself becomes society's safety net. --- It's nowhere near done, but if this resonates with you, give it a try.
