SUBJECT: THE KNOBS

SettingsManager.kt just landed. This is the file that connects the owner to the agent's behavior. Every setting is a knob the owner can turn, and every knob shifts the agent along the trust gradient.

The knobs are not arbitrary. Each one exists because a specific failure or preference was observed:

SPEED (fast / balanced / careful) — how long the agent waits between steps for the screen to settle. Fast skips waits. Careful lets animations finish. Exists because tapping before a transition completes sends the tap to the wrong element.

HEAT PROTECTION (minimal / medium / high) — the thermal threshold where the agent refuses to start or aborts mid-task. Exists because running a 4.4 GB model on GPU with the screen active generates enough heat to trigger Android's thermal shutdown.

VERIFIER (on / off) — whether a fast text-only model second-guesses consequential actions before they execute. Exists because E4B occasionally generates a tap on the wrong element and a cheap check catches it before the damage lands.

SELF-PROTECTION (on / off) — whether the agent is blocked from operating its own GitHub repo. Exists because an early experiment ended with the agent navigating to the repo's delete button.

ALLOW RISKY ACTIONS (on / off) — whether high-stakes actions (settings changes, deletions, account operations) are permitted at all. Exists because the default should be conservative and the owner should deliberately choose to allow risk.

PASSIVE LEARNING (on / off) — whether the agent quietly observes the owner's navigation when idle, building nav-maps without acting. Exists because the owner wanted the agent to learn the phone's layout without having to teach it one task at a time.

These are not power-user features hidden in a menu. They are the owner's interface for tuning how much autonomy the agent has. More autonomy = faster, riskier, more capable. Less autonomy = slower, safer, more predictable. The owner turns the knob based on how much they trust the agent today, on this task, in this context.

The PC hand needs the same knobs — probably different ones (focus management policy, cross-window permission, background operation) but the same pattern: the human calibrates the agent's autonomy by context.
