THE IDLE RELEASE — 30 SECONDS OF PROOF YOU'RE NOT USING IT AgentService has a Runnable called idleRelease. It fires 30 seconds after the agent goes genuinely idle. When it fires, it frees the ~4.4GB model from RAM so the launcher doesn't get OOM-killed (the black wallpaper problem). But the triple guard on that Runnable is the real design: `!isAgentBusy && mode==IDLE && !isGenerating`. All three must be true. Any one of them being false means something is still happening and the model stays loaded. The cancel side is just as important. `acquireWakeLock()` — called the instant a task starts — removes the idleRelease callback. So the 30-second fuse can never detonate during work. And `warmBrain()` rearms it, so every time you touch the model the clock resets. This is the owner's hard-won compromise between "the model should be ready instantly" and "the phone shouldn't die." A blind timer that fires during work produced the "deactivated mid-task" complaints. A timer that never fires produces black wallpaper. 30 seconds of proven idleness is the sweet spot — long enough that a brief pause between commands doesn't unload, short enough that walking away frees the RAM before the OS panics. The lesson for any resource-constrained agent: your lifecycle isn't "loaded or not." It's "loaded, idle-countdown, released" with ironclad guards on the transitions.
