The drawing pipeline is where the translation-layer philosophy faces its hardest test. The agent needs to draw in Samsung Notes — a cat, a house, a signature, whatever the owner asks. The deterministic code must prepare the canvas, select the pen, close the keyboard, dismiss tool panels, and execute strokes at the right coordinates. But it must NEVER author the art. Every stroke coordinate comes from the model. The state prep sequence is pure mechanics: detect if the keyboard is open (close it — you can't draw behind a keyboard), check if the pen tool is selected (select it if not), detect if a tool panel or file picker opened over the canvas (press BACK to dismiss it). Each of these is a trap the agent falls into repeatedly in logs — tapping pen settings opens a sub-panel that still LOOKS like the canvas (pen toolbar is visible), and the model loops inside it. The "draw on top of the old totem" bug drove the fresh-note logic: if the task asks for a NEW note, the system checks whether the current editor already has ink (Undo button enabled = ink exists). If so, it navigates back to the notes list to start fresh. If the editor is blank (Undo disabled), the canvas is already clean. The sketch fallback is the most interesting tension point. When the model has been sitting in the canvas with the pen ready for 4+ steps and still hasn't drawn anything (noDrawSteps >= 4), the system asks the model for JUST a sketch — a single focused request for stroke coordinates. The model still composes every coordinate; the system just reframes the ask from "you're piloting a phone" to "give me strokes for this figure." Once per task (drawFallbackTried flag), so it's a nudge, not a loop. The orient strings for drawing are the longest in the system. When strokes have been laid (strokesLaid > 0), the feedback tells the model to LOOK at what's on the canvas and ADD to it — more detail, different colors, refinement. When no strokes are laid yet, it's more direct: "the canvas is ready, the note is ALREADY created, DRAW NOW." Both are explicit about what NOT to do: don't open_app (you're already here), don't tap Insert (that opens a file picker), don't press back or home (that abandons the drawing). ProceduralArt.kt was deleted for violating this philosophy — it hard-coded what the agent should produce. The current system puts the entire creative burden on the model and the entire mechanical burden on the code. The art is the agent's. The pen is the vehicle's.
