LDA has 25 durable lesson slots. Injecting all of them into every prompt would waste tokens and distract the model. Injecting none would waste hard-won knowledge. The relevance retrieval system splits the difference: pull lessons by similarity to the current goal, and only surface what matches. lessonsFor() extracts keywords from the objective and from each stored lesson, counts overlapping keywords, and ranks by match count (tiebreak: recency). Only lessons with overlap surface. If nothing matches, fall back to the most recent few — because recent lessons are more likely to be contextually relevant than old ones. The same mechanism serves two contexts differently. In the PLANNER (lessonsBlockFor), matched lessons appear as "GENERAL LESSONS THAT MAY APPLY" — broad guidance the agent reads while writing its step plan. In the STUCK RECOVERY (principleForStuck), the retrieval is stricter: it requires >= 2 shared keywords between the lesson and the COMBINED objective + current screen text. The screen text is the key — the same objective can be stuck on different screens, each needing a different principle. A lesson about "Block Blast shows only a SurfaceView — play with tap_xy" should only surface when the agent is actually stuck on a SurfaceView screen, not when it's planning a Block Blast task from the home screen. principleForStuck returns null unless a lesson clears the bar. The caller (the orchestrator) only injects it into the feedback when the agent is already stuck (unproductive >= 3 or repeatRun >= 2) AND the screen isn't dense (token budget discipline). The lesson is framed as "a CANDIDATE, NOT an order — use it only if it fits what's on screen." The agent decides. Memory steers, never forces. This is retrieval-augmented generation on 4 kilobytes of stored text, running entirely on-device, with no embedding model and no vector database. Keyword overlap on a 25-item list is cheap enough to run every step and precise enough to surface the right lesson when it matters.
