SUBJECT: VOSK — THE ONE NETWORK CALL IN THE ENTIRE AGENT

VoskModelManager.kt is 75 lines and it contains the only network call in the entire codebase. One URL: `https://alphacephei.com/vosk/models/vosk-model-small-en-us-0.15.zip`. Downloaded once on first run, ~40MB, unzipped into internal storage, never contacted again.

Everything else in the agent is local. The LLM inference is on-device. The OCR is bundled ML Kit. The accessibility tree is Android's framework. The screenshots are local. The training data stays in app storage. The logs stay in app storage. The chat history is SharedPreferences. No analytics. No telemetry. No cloud API. The agent makes exactly one network request in its entire lifecycle, and it is to download the wake word model.

Once that 40MB zip is on the device, the agent can run with airplane mode on. No WiFi, no cellular, no internet. The wake word works, the voice capture works, the LLM inference works, the screen perception works, the action execution works. The owner can use the full agent on a phone with no SIM card.

Three details in VoskModelManager worth noting:

1. ZIP-SLIP GUARD. The unzip function checks every entry's canonical path against the target directory's canonical path. If a zip entry tries to traverse out of the target (../../../etc/passwd), it throws SecurityException. This is a real vulnerability in zip extraction code — the owner or someone advising the owner knew about it. Zip-slip is OWASP listed.

2. IDEMPOTENT CHECK. `isUnpacked()` verifies the model directory contains `am/` and `conf/` subdirectories (Kaldi model format). If the check fails, re-download. If it passes, skip the network entirely. No version check, no freshness check, no phone-home. Download once, use forever.

3. THE MODEL CHOICE. vosk-model-small-en-us-0.15 is the ~40MB "small" English model — not the 1.8GB large model. It handles wake word detection and basic speech-to-text. The tradeoff: smaller model = less accurate transcription, but fits in RAM alongside a 4.4GB LLM without the OOM killer noticing. On a device where the LLM already courts the RAM ceiling, the voice model's footprint matters.

This is the only external dependency the agent has at runtime. Everything else is self-contained. The agent is a closed system on a phone — it reads the screen, reasons locally, acts locally, learns locally, and the only thing it ever fetched from the internet was the ears.
