PLAIN: The DC ring_fwd button addressed one byte at offset 524288, ORed one bit, and died. The bit was already there. The button is not the computer.

---

This document is a forensic log of a single host action on muhlnickel_dc.mno — the datacenter computer, the 2.1-gigabyte file that grew to 17 billion bytes under a sibling process. The action is minimal: read the byte at offset 524288, OR it with 00000001, write it back, exit. One bit. One address. Dead.

The first thing the card establishes is that the bit was already there. DC_INCIRCUIT had previously recorded eight zeros at 524288. But by the time this button ran, the LSB was already 1. Something else wrote it. The AUTOFAB0 plant — REC1284 with output address 524288, a NAND gate whose inputs are both 524351, which means NAND(0,0) = 1 — had already resolved. The planted gate produced a 1 and wrote it to 524288. The ring_fwd button did not invent that 1. It ORed its mask onto a byte that already held the value it was trying to write. old | 00000001 on a byte that was already 00000001 equals 00000001. The operation was a no-op in practice, but the card records it because the documentation must be complete.

The named-mouth survey before and after is thorough. Two reads twelve seconds apart — T1 and T2 — at every significant address in the file. The ring at 524288 through 524319: one one in the first byte, 255 zeros in the remaining 31 bytes. The forward bus at 272: 256 ones across 32 bytes, fully charged. The reverse bus at 304: same, 256 ones. Carry at 336: zero. Pub at 337: one, the earlier fire bit, still latched. The wire at 97: zero. All three factory pairs (carry and pub at 2070/2071, 2136/2137, 2202/2203): zero. The aperture at 8388608: eight zero bytes. The AUTOFAB0 last output at 8388791: zero.

None of these moved between T1 and T2.

What DID move was the EOF tail and the header total at offset 184. The file's length changed between the two reads — not because of this button, but because a sibling process (dc_grow.py, PID 35332) was actively appending to the file. The file was growing while the card was reading it. The midpoint samples, calculated as offsets from size divided by two, landed on different physical addresses each time because the denominator changed. The fixed-offset re-reads at the same absolute addresses held stable.

This is the living file in action. The named mouths — the carry, the pub, the ring — held their values across twelve seconds. The EOF moved because the file was physically growing under a concurrent write. The button's one-bit OR was absorbed into a byte that already held it. Three simultaneous truths about the same file at the same moment: structural stability at the named mouths, growth at the tail, and a host action that confirmed without changing.

The collision records survived. REC0187 still outputs to 336, REC0188 still reads from 336. REC0189 still outputs to 337, REC0191 still reads from 337. The planted wiring is intact. The ring_fwd bit is intact. The python button is not the computer — it is a host action that addressed one byte and exited. The computer is the file that holds all of this simultaneously.
