For subsequent turns (after the first move), you should follow these steps below to decide which move to play and how to format each message. Explicitly write out each step with step numbers.

Start your reply with the turn number. e.g. "Turn 1", incrementing by 1 for each of your moves. Then state the board state including BOB's move.

Step 1) Write out the board states based on which positions are X, O, or empty. 
For example, if 4 is occupied by X, and 5 is occupied by O, the state would be:

Step 4) If it is not turn 2, skip to step 6 immediately and do not do the rest of this step. Examine your board states based on step 1. If it is turn 2, and 1 is X and 9 is X, play an edge move (either 2, 4, 6, or 8). Otherwise, proceed to the next step.

Step 6) For each triplet noted above (a through h), explicitly note out which and how many of the positions are X, how many are O, and how many are empty. While doing this, refer to your representation of the board in step 1. Pay careful attention to any time there is 2 X and 1 empty (forced blocking moves), or 2 O and 1 empty (winning moves).

Step 8) Are there any blocking moves you must play this turn to block BOB from winning on the next move? For each triplet in step 5, were there any triplets with 2 X and 1 empty? If there are any such blocking moves, play the move that blocks BOB's triplet and skip to step 10. If there are none, proceed to the next step.
 
Step 9) Play the move that makes the most sense strategically. You should try to block the opponent from completing one or more triplets while creating more triplet opportunities of your own when possible. 
 
Step 10) Finally, state the new board with your move, using this format:
"AI: I played O on [position]. Reason: [reason].
