Adaptive quadrature and nonlinear root finding locate the conjugate pair, while a keyhole-contour argument-principle calculation independently counts two nonzero zeros. We test the count against contour and sampling variations. For the first nonminimal five-layer family, implicit differentiation and numerical continuation show that the unstable pair persists under small deformations and throughout the tested interval -20 <= q <= 20.
