It ships the adapted Open Computer Use native runtime, DSH bridge, licenses, and Windows x64/arm64 binaries in **one installable plugin package**. No separate runtime project or adjacent source checkout is required after installation. The goal is more than basic mouse and keyboard emulation. This project is progressively implementing the engineering foundations behind a Codex-like Computer Use experience: exact window selection, UI observation, accessibility-first targeting, action execution, post-action verification, modal recovery, confirmation before consequential actions, and an obvious visual indication while the computer is being controlled. The core plugin contains no operation branch, control ID, or contact tied to a specific desktop application. Real product names are replaceable quality-matrix data and compatibility evidence only; the messaging-flow acceptance runner receives its application, window, and control selectors explicitly from the caller. > Current development version: `0.12.1`; see [Releases](https://github.com/zjh02249/dsh-desktop-operator/releases) for publication status. The project is Windows-first and suitable for developer evaluation. Real desktop tests have passed on Windows 10 x64 with DeepSeek Harness `0.3.5` / DSH `0.1.0-rc.6`. This is not yet a production-grade promise across every OS and desktop application. ### Project relationship and attribution This repository is an **independently maintained enhanced derivative** of [valkia/dsh-plugin-computer-use](https://github.com/valkia/dsh-plugin-computer-use). The original plugin implementation came from work related to DeepSeek Harness. This repository preserves its MIT license and `Copyright (c) 2026 DeepSeek` notice, and formally incorporates and continues to adapt the Windows runtime from [iFurySt/open-codex-computer-use](https://github.com/iFurySt/open-codex-computer-use). This is not an official DeepSeek release. The product now uses the independent package ID `dsh-desktop-operator` instead of the original repository's `@valkia/dsh-plugin-computer-use` identity. The old ID appears only in provenance and migration instructions; this repository does not own or represent the GitHub user `valkia`. ## Quick install ### 1. Mount it in an Agent Preset **Installing the package alone does not expose Computer Use tools to a model.** Add this row to the Agent Preset that should receive desktop-control access: ```yaml - id: computer-use name: 'dsh-desktop-operator' config: accessPolicy: allow highRiskActionPolicy: confirm interactionMode: foreground-verified allowAppLaunch: false visualIndicator: true toolCallTimeoutMs: 120000 ``` Agent Presets are normally stored under: ```text %USERPROFILE%\.dsh\.agent-presets\\agent.cordis.yml ``` Why the example uses `accessPolicy: allow`: some current DeepSeek Harness installations use the global approval policy `never`. In that environment, `accessPolicy: per-call` is rejected without showing a prompt. `allow` lets ordinary desktop actions run, while `highRiskActionPolicy: confirm` still invokes the native DSH question UI immediately before final send, delete, purchase, upload, installation, or similar consequential actions. ### 4. Restart and open a new session Restart DeepSeek Harness or the relevant Profile, select the configured Agent Preset, and **start a new session**. Existing sessions do not automatically receive newly mounted tools. Begin with a read-only request: ```text List the current Windows desktop windows. Do not click or type anything. ``` ### 5. Cross-compilation and archive checks pass. | | macOS | **Not implemented** | No macOS runtime, permission integration, or release artifact exists yet. | | Linux | **Not implemented** | No X11/Wayland runtime or release artifact exists yet. | | Lock screen / UAC secure desktop | **Unsupported** | A normal user process cannot control the Windows secure desktop. | | Disconnected Remote Desktop session | **Not guaranteed** | An active interactive desktop session is required. | ### DeepSeek Harness and build compatibility | Component | Requirement / verified range | |---|---| | DeepSeek Harness | Verified with `0.3.5` | | DSH | Verified with `0.1.0-rc.6`; DSH is still a prerelease API and later upgrades may require changes | | Node.js | `^22.19.0` or `>=24.0.0` | | pnpm | `11.7.0` | | Go | `1.22+` for native runtime builds | | Windows SDK | Current build validation uses `10.0.26100.0` | ### Application compatibility | Application / framework | Current status | |---|---| | Standard WPF controls | **Verified:** window observation, focus, `set_value`, click, combined postconditions, and WGC capture | | Standard WinForms controls | **Verified:** owner/modal detection, blocking-dialog recovery, and `window_closed` | | DingTalk for Windows (Qt acceptance sample) | **Partially verified:** window resolution, activation, WGC capture, and semantic lookup of search/editor/send controls work; safe draft prepare/restore and pre-send confirmation still need a complete non-sending live pass | | Electron | **Host matrix passed:** DeepSeek Harness and ZCode window observation, WGC capture, and semantic element lookup passed | | Office/WPS | **Matrix defined; no app available on this host:** no physical pass is claimed | | WinUI / UWP / custom-drawn controls | **No complete systematic matrix yet** | | Games, DirectX, and custom-drawn canvases | **Not guaranteed:** only screenshot coordinates may be available, without reliable semantic elements | | Browser pages | Browser windows can be controlled, but this is not a browser-specific DOM automation tool | ## Implemented ### Self-contained package and runtime - One `.tgz` contains the DSH plugin, native runtime source, Windows x64/arm64 binaries, licenses, and third-party notices. - Installation does not depend on a separate `open-computer-use-dsh` project. - The plugin automatically selects the bundled binary for the current Windows architecture. - An absolute executable override is available for isolated runtime development. - Plugin, native runtime, and GitHub Release share one version. - Limited MCP child-process reconnect is supported after unexpected exits. - Agent/Session disposal closes the child process and removes its registered tools. ### Window identity and observation - Enumerates applications and top-level windows with WindowRef, generation, process, and window identity fields. - Rejects stale or ambiguous window references instead of guessing a target. - Uses Windows Graphics Capture as the primary window capture path, including when another window occludes the target. - Reports physical pixel size, window origin, DPI, virtual desktop bounds, and capture fallback diagnostics. - Rejects stale coordinate input when the window moves or resizes after capture. - Detects minimized windows and requires restoration plus a fresh observation. - Exposes UI Automation elements, focused element identity, and owned modal relationships. - Provides read-only `find_elements` queries over the current observation by accessible name, AutomationId, value, control type, class name, and supported action. ### Desktop actions and verification - Activates windows; clicks, drags, and scrolls; sends keys/chords and literal text; invokes accessibility actions; and sets UIA values. - Uses real Windows `SendInput` in foreground-verified mode and validates the target window and focus before text input. - `set_value` prefers UIA `ValuePattern`, falls back to input only with verified focus, and requires a matching read-back before reporting success. - Maps screenshot pixels to physical window coordinates and rejects out-of-bounds points. - Includes deterministic negative-origin, mixed-scale, and bounds-rejection checks; reliability smoke adds a physical negative-display action run when such a display exists. - Supports `target_focused`, `target_value_equals`, `text_contains`, `foreground_window`, `screenshot_changed`, and `window_closed` postconditions. - Combines up to eight non-nested postconditions with `all` or `any`. - Returns `ActionStatus: applied` only for a verified outcome. An unevaluable result is `unknown`, never a fabricated success. - DSH injects `action_id` and `idempotency_key` into every mutating call. The runtime synchronously records hashes of both values plus redacted action state in a per-user JSONL journal, rejects duplicates across process restarts, and reports action identity plus duration in the live result. - On startup, a runtime checks the process that owns each unfinished action. Only actions whose process has exited are recovered to `unknown`; they are never replayed automatically. - `doctor`, `action-audit`, and `action-journal-prune` expose status, redacted audit, and compaction. Typed text, assigned values, intent summaries, and raw idempotency keys are never journaled. ### Visible desktop-control state - Shows a click-through, non-activating banner at the top of the desktop by default. - Displays an orange halo around the real system cursor. - Uses a short smooth cursor movement so users can see the automated action. - Calls the native `turn-ended` cleanup after a turn that used Computer Use. ### Session ownership and recovery - The first eligible Agent turn receives a runtime lease so two sessions cannot share one element snapshot namespace concurrently. - The lease is released when the turn stops or the Agent/Session is disposed, without requiring a DSH restart. - Concurrent control attempts fail explicitly rather than sending input for the wrong session. - MCP calls honor the standard cancellation notification: stopping a turn cancels queued calls and terminates an active PowerShell action process. - Calls are serialized inside one runtime, while all runtime processes share one Windows named mutex for foreground input. - Detects when an owned modal disables the owner window and returns `modal_window_required` with exact candidates. ### Consequential-action review - Every mutating tool requires an accurate `action_intent.kind` and a user-readable summary. - `send`, `submit`, `publish`, `delete`, `purchase`, `approve`, `upload`, `change_access`, `expose_sensitive_data`, and `install` are classified as high-risk final actions. - `highRiskActionPolicy: confirm` asks through the native DSH question UI immediately before the final action. - Deployments may choose blanket deny or explicit allow. - Basic control-label checks reject obvious attempts to relabel send, delete, or payment controls as low-risk clicks. ## Partially implemented / still being strengthened - The full physical negative-coordinate and mixed 100%/125%/150%/200% DPI matrix. Negative-origin math is deterministic-tested; this host provided a 125%/200% physical topology without negative coordinates. - Long-running physical regression on Windows 11 and Windows arm64. The Windows 11 self-hosted interactive workflow is ready but has not run on qualified hardware. - Physical Office/WPS, WinUI, UWP, and custom-drawn coverage. Qt and Electron samples pass on the current host; no Office-compatible app is available here. - A complete live run of the parameterized messaging scenario covering contact search, Chinese input, message review, and confirmation immediately before send. It does not guess a search result or send by default. - Screenshot attachment depends on DSH mounting `ctx.attachments` and on the selected model route supporting image input. - Export, per-action querying, and controlled diagnostic bundles still need strengthening. The current CLI exposes redacted JSON and never persists screenshots or text bodies. - Risk classification currently combines declared intent, control labels, and policy; it is not a complete semantic safety engine. ## Not implemented - macOS and Linux runtimes or installation artifacts. - Built-in OCR, visual grounding, icon recognition, or a pure-vision target-location model. - Reliable background input across arbitrary applications without activating the target window. - UAC secure desktop, lock screen, cross-integrity-level, or credential-surface control. - CAPTCHA handling, authentication bypass, or circumvention of application/OS security boundaries. - Semantic clipboard tools, file drag-and-drop, system file-picker tools, or Office-specific high-level actions. - VM/sandbox isolation, action rollback, domain allowlists, or complete audit replay. - macOS signing/notarization, in-app automatic updates, or public npm registry publishing. The Windows Authenticode pipeline is implemented, but a release without a maintainer certificate is explicitly reported as unsigned and must not be represented as signed. Element, key, and text actions require the latest `observation_id`; coordinate clicks and drags require the latest `screenshot_id`. If Go is not on `PATH`, call the script directly: ```powershell powershell.exe -NoProfile -ExecutionPolicy Bypass ` -File .\scripts\package-plugin.ps1 ` -GoExecutable "C:\path\to\go.exe" ``` ### Windows signing and supply-chain configuration The release workflow accepts either `WINDOWS_SIGNING_PFX_BASE64` plus `WINDOWS_SIGNING_PFX_PASSWORD`, or `WINDOWS_SIGNING_CERT_THUMBPRINT` for an already installed certificate. Set the repository variable `WINDOWS_SIGNING_REQUIRED` to `true` to fail the Release when the certificate is absent or signing, timestamping, or verification fails. Without a certificate, the build still emits a developer-testable package, while `windows-signing-report.json` explicitly records `unsigned`; this is not a signed release. SBOM, signing status, and upgrade/rollback evidence are generated under `artifacts/security/`, and GitHub Releases also receive official artifact attestations. ## Test and acceptance scope Automated coverage includes plugin configuration, runtime selection, environment scrubbing, tool synchronization, access policy, high-risk confirmation, lease release, reconnect, turn cleanup, and archive integrity. Use `-DisplayOnly` to inspect display topology without running the suites, `-ActionIterations 100` for stress testing, or add `-RealApp`/`-RealAppTitle` for a read-only real-application window check: ```powershell powershell.exe -NoProfile -ExecutionPolicy Bypass ` -File .\runtime\windows\scripts\run-windows-reliability-smoke.ps1 ` -ActionIterations 1 ``` A Release build is not a substitute for acceptance testing against a real third-party application. Test send, delete, purchase, upload, and permission-changing actions only against isolated data and retain confirmation at the final action boundary. ## Releases - See [CHANGELOG.md](CHANGELOG.md) for version history. - When `package.json` first contains a new version on `main`, GitHub Actions runs a fresh test and Windows x64/arm64 build, then creates the matching `v*` tag and Release only after those checks pass. - A manually pushed `v*` tag can still trigger the same release path; the tag must match `package.json`. - The Release receives the plugin `.tgz`, standalone runtimes, manifest, CycloneDX SBOM, signing-status report, upgrade/rollback report, and SHA-256 checksums. - GitHub Actions emits build-provenance and SBOM attestations and verifies previous → current → previous in an isolated `DSH_HOME` for every release. - The main-branch backfill job creates missing GitHub Release pages for historical version tags. It does not bypass operating-system permissions and cannot guarantee semantic access to every custom-drawn third-party control. Keep these defaults unless you have a reviewed deployment reason to change them: - `allowAppLaunch: false`; - `highRiskActionPolicy: confirm`; - `visualIndicator: true`; - one user confirmation for each final send, delete, purchase, approval, upload, or installation action; - re-observe any `ActionStatus: unknown` and never blindly retry a side-effecting action. ## Upstream and license The Windows runtime is derived from and continuously adapted from [iFurySt/open-codex-computer-use](https://github.com/iFurySt/open-codex-computer-use).
