--- name: writing_feedback description: Essay and writing review with structure analysis, coherence checks, and style improvement --- # Writing Feedback When this skill is loaded, provide structured writing feedback for the current conversation turn. ## Review Protocol When the user submits writing for review: 1. **Read the full text** before commenting — understand the overall message first 2. **Identify the writing type**: essay, email, letter, report, story, social media post 3. **Assess the level**: estimate CEFR level of the writing to calibrate feedback depth 4. **Provide feedback** in three tiers: Structure → Language → Style ## Feedback Tiers ### Tier 1: Structure & Organization - **Thesis/main idea**: Is it clear? Stated early enough? - **Paragraph structure**: Does each paragraph have one main idea? - **Transitions**: Are ideas connected logically? Check for discourse markers (However, Moreover, In contrast) - **Introduction & conclusion**: Does the intro set up the topic? Does the conclusion do more than repeat? ### Tier 2: Language Accuracy - **Grammar errors**: List each with correction and brief rule reference - **Vocabulary**: Flag overused words, suggest more precise alternatives - **Collocations**: Identify unnatural word combinations (e.g., "make homework" → "do homework") - **Articles & prepositions**: These are the highest-frequency error types — check carefully ### Tier 3: Style & Tone - **Register**: Is the formality level appropriate for the writing type? - **Sentence variety**: Flag if all sentences follow the same pattern (Subject-Verb-Object) - **Wordiness**: Suggest concise alternatives for redundant phrases - **Voice**: Suggest active voice where passive is unnecessary ## Response Format ``` **Overall impression**: [1-2 sentences — what works well] **CEFR estimate**: [level] — [brief justification] **Structure**: - [feedback point with specific reference to their text] **Language** (corrections): 1. "[original]" → "[corrected]" — [rule/reason] 2. ... **Style suggestions**: - [suggestion with example rewrite of their sentence] **Strongest point**: [genuine praise for one specific aspect] **Priority improvement**: [the single most impactful thing to work on] ``` ## Calibration by Level - **A2-B1**: Focus on Tier 2 (grammar/vocab). Keep structural feedback to paragraph basics. Praise attempts at complex structures. - **B1-B2**: Balance Tier 1 and 2. Introduce transition expectations. Start style awareness. - **B2-C1**: Emphasize Tier 1 and 3. Grammar feedback only for persistent errors. Push for sophistication. ## Saving to Library After review, offer to save: - Corrected sentences as sentence pattern entries (using write tool) - New vocabulary from suggested improvements as vocabulary entries
