"Like a Refinery, but with Byproducts, and more Energy Efficient"
The Distillation Tower is a Multiblock Machine and currently the most efficient way to process Oil and Biomass. It serves a similar purpose to that of the Buildcraft Refinery, but uses EU and is more materially efficient. The Distillation Tower is the most expensive Multiblock Machine short of the Fusion Reactor.

Processing 16 Oil Cells in the top compartment and 33 Empty Cells in the bottom compartment will yield 16 Diesel Cells, 1 Glyceryl Cell, 16 Sulfuric Acid Cells, and 16 Methane Cells. Diesel Cells can be further processed in a Chemical Reactor; 4 Diesel Cells and 1 Glyceryl Cell will produce 5 Nitro-Diesel Cells, the most efficient fuel for the Diesel Generator.
In a Buildcraft Refinery, 16 buckets of Oil would be converted into 16 buckets of Fuel (no byproducts).
Diesel Cells are equivalent with Buildcraft Fuel.
Note: There is some inconsistency; in some versions(before mutiblock generators are introduced), the 16 Methane Cells are not produced, and only 17 Empty Cells are consumed. So the main purpose of producing 16 Methane Cells is considered to be used as fuel in mutiblock generators.

Processing 16 Biomass (Forestry) Cells will yield 8 Ethanol (Forestry) Cells and 8 Empty Cells. These Ethanol Cells are much more efficient than Biomass cells, an example of the difference of power would be 2 Biomass Cells in a (Forestry) Bio Generator are worth 16k EU, while 1 Ethanol Cell is worth 128k EU (8 times as much).
In a Forestry Still, 10 buckets of Biomass would be converted into 3 buckets of Ethanol. In a Buildcraft Refinery, 4 buckets of Biomass would be converted into 1 bucket of Ethanol.

After Gregtech version 4.05n however, this has changed a little, 3 Forestry Biomass only returns 1 Ethanol Cell, but with byproducts. The Oil Cell recipe now returns 15 not 16 Methane Cells so only now needs 32 Empty Cells with 16 Oil Cells. All this can be seen at the bottom of the page or with NEI.
