kick-off the year 2000 with its annual fund-raising gala, An Evening of Stars: A
Celebration of Educational Excellence, which will air on approximately 70 top

today announced the five historically black colleges and universities (HBCU) that will
receive grants to improve science, math, engineering, and technology curricula.

TO ESTABLISH THE GATES MILLENNIUM SCHOLARS PROGRAM
September 16, 1999, Fairfax, VA -- The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation today
announced the largest private gift to higher education in U.S. history--an historic $1
billion grant over 20 years, to establish the Gates Millennium Scholars Program. The
United Negro College Fund will administer the program.

GOSPEL FESTIVAL COLLEGE FUNDRAISER
September 2, 1999, Fairfax, VA ---- An unprecedented collaboration involving three
of the nation's most influential African American organizations was announced today by the
United Negro College Fund, Congress of National Black Churches, and the National Urban
League. The Gospel Festival will debut exclusively on Black Entertainment Television (BET)
on Sunday, September 26, 1999, from 7:00 - 11:00 p.m.

revenues raised in 1999 fiscal year were $139,159,417.00 which represents a new record for
